Lotus grown as a potted plant from lotus root bought at the vegetable market can also bloom, and the planting method is not difficult

Lotus has always been deeply loved by flower enthusiasts, but when buying lotus seeds, it is always easy to end up with seeds that do not sprout. Here, Home Growing shares some tips on how to grow lotus from lotus root.
1. Which lotus roots will bloom
Vegetable lotus root tends to grow leaves easily but does not bloom easily, so when choosing lotus root you can pick shallow-water lotus root. It is best to choose lotus root that has already sprouted one or two buds, as this makes planting somewhat easier.
2. Potting soil
Everyone knows that lotus root grows in mud, and the soil needs to be rich in nutrients for the lotus root to grow well and be able to bloom. You can prepare some pond mud, which you can dig from a nearby fish pond, or you can find some garden soil. Then compost some base fertilizer; for the base fertilizer you can use some dry leaves and corn husks, plus some chicken manure and plant ash, and compost them together. Flower pot: It is best to find a fairly large flower pot, and the depth of the pot must be sufficient so that the lotus root can grow vigorously; ideally the flower pot should be about 70 cm.
3. Planting
When planting, be careful not to damage the lotus buds; point the lotus buds upward and do not bury the lotus root too deep, leaving a little of the lotus root slightly exposed. This helps with sprouting. After planting, you can water it a little; there is no need to water too much, just keep the soil moist.
4. Watering
Generally, in about two weeks the lotus root will send up small shoots, and at this time be careful to keep the soil moist. In about a month it will grow to roughly ten cm or so. At this point you can add more water to the lotus pot. After a few months you will be able to see a pot full of lotus leaves.
5. Fertilizer
If the lotus leaves turn yellow, fertilizer needs to be added promptly; you can add some diluted cake fertilizer, but be careful that it has been fermented, otherwise it can easily burn the roots. Then, it is best to fertilize on a sunny morning, and when fertilizing it is best to apply the fertilizer along the edge of the flower pot. Do not apply concentrated fertilizer.
6. Light
Lotus likes an environment with plenty of light, so it is best to grow it in a yard or on a balcony, where there is plenty of light. Only with sufficient light can the lotus bloom earlier. Normally the water in the basin should not be too deep; at most 15 cm is fine.
