A low survival rate when taking plant cuttings is a worry for many gardening fans - rooting is slow and the waiting is nerve-racking. Today let's try making some rooting water ourselves to help our cuttings root faster.

1. Edible vinegar

Choose salt-free edible rice vinegar and mix it with cool boiled water at a 1:100 ratio. Soak the lower part of the cuttings in the solution for about 8 hours, then take them out, let them dry in the shade, and they are ready for planting.

This solution can be used to soak plants such as camellia, kalanchoe and grape.

2. White sugar

White sugar can be mixed directly with water to make rooting water. After removing the lower leaves from the cut branch, mix white sugar with hot water at a 1:10 ratio (hot water is needed or it won't dissolve), and once the solution has cooled, soak the branch in it for half an hour, then plant it as usual.

This solution can be used for cuttings of flowers such as rose, geranium, kalanchoe, camellia and azalea.

3. Willow branches

You can break off a piece of willow branch by a small river and take it home to use, and making rooting water with it is very simple: first cut the willow branch into sections, soak them in hot water for one day, then put the cuttings in to soak for 12 hours, and once they have dried in the shade, plant them as usual.

This solution can be used for cuttings of green plants and flowers such as spider plant, pothos, azalea and rose.

Gardening fans who enjoy hands-on work are sure to enjoy the fun of this process, especially when they see that the rooting water they made has successfully rooted their cuttings - it feels really rewarding!

However, if gardening fans find making rooting water themselves too troublesome, they can choose to buy ready-made rooting nutrient solution, which saves time and effort.
