Dad fell in love with growing bonsai, and no one could talk him out of digging up stumps and hunting for bargains; over a hundred bonsai pots and there is already nowhere left to put them!

After Dad retired, he gradually came to love growing bonsai at home. At first, he even felt out of sorts because he was too idle after retirement, but luckily he came across bonsai and found his joy. Yet as time went on, another new problem appeared: Dad became addicted to growing bonsai. Every time he bought bonsai, he bought them several pots at a time, and at the beginning he was even ripped off out of quite a bit of money.

These bonsai grown in the yard started out as just a single layer placed on the ground. Now there are too many bonsai, so Dad made several layers of these stone slabs to hold the bonsai. Later, because buying bonsai cost too much money, he even argued with Mom a few times, and only then did Dad slowly stop. Although he is not so free-spending on buying bonsai now, whenever he sees anything that can be used to grow bonsai, he picks it up and brings it home, which has Mom worried sick again.

Besides hunting for bargains, Dad also goes up the mountain to dig up tree stumps to grow bonsai. The one above was dug up from the mountain. Dad likes it very much, and he also says that bonsai grown for free are no worse at all than the ones for sale.

When growing bonsai, Dad picks up stones too, and he even uses foam boxes. Faced with his obsession with growing bonsai, Mom eventually gave in too. Who could blame her, when Dad truly loves growing bonsai?

Growing bonsai does not only require manpower and money; those are just the basics. Yet if you want to grow bonsai well, without some real skill you truly cannot grow them well. At the beginning, Dad also ended up with quite a few empty pots when growing bonsai. Now he has been growing bonsai for seven or eight years and has gained very rich experience. Even the neighbors have been drawn in and started growing bonsai now.

What Dad is most proud of now is this bonsai garden he spent seven or eight years creating. I wonder whether the people around you who love growing bonsai are also this crazy about it? You are welcome to leave a comment and share!
