When summer arrives, many plants enter their peak growing season, which is also a peak blooming season. Besides the roses, jasmine, and other flowers we commonly see, here are 10 other plant varieties that are not often seen, shown to everyone.

Bluebeard

Scientific nameCaryopteris x clandonensis, a deciduous shrub or subshrub of the genus Caryopteris in the Verbenaceae family, also known as bluebeard, is a hybrid variety that produces beautiful blue flowers in summer, in cymes, terminal or axillary, with flower colors all blue, attracting bees and butterflies, preferring a cool climate, with a flowering period from August to October.

Butterfly bush

It is like a lilac that blooms in summer. The flowers appear in similar colors - purple, lavender, blue, pink, and white - and are strongly fragrant. Happily, the butterfly bush provides a longer blooming season than the lilac tree.

Carolina sweetshrub

Carolina sweetshrub gets its name because it is native to the United States and blooms in early summer. It is a deciduous shrub of the genus Calycanthus in the Calycanthaceae family, with a clustered growth habit, a plant height of 2 m to 3 m, buds without scales, opposite leaves, elliptical or ovate leaf blades, glossy or slightly rough leaf surfaces, dark green leaf color, turning golden yellow in late autumn. The single flower is terminal, with a flower stem of about 5 cm, petals slender, reddish-brown, with a sweet fragrance, and a flowering period from mid-April to June. The fruit grows inside a cup-shaped receptacle and matures from September to October. It prefers a warm and humid environment and grows well in sufficient but soft sunlight, but it fears scorching sun exposure and is cold-tolerant. It is suitable for planting under open woodland or in other places without direct sunlight in summer; if the light is too strong, it will cause the petals to dry out and form unsightly scorched spots.

Panicle hydrangea

A shrub or small tree of the section Hydrangea in the Saxifragaceae family, with branches dark reddish-brown or grayish-brown, initially sparsely pubescent, later becoming glabrous, with grooved stripes and circular light-colored lenticels. It grows in valleys, under open woodland on mountain slopes, or in shrubs on mountain ridges.

Oleander

A very easy-care subtropical shrub, oleander offers summer flowers in pink, red, purple, lilac, yellow, and white. In fact, it is so foolproof that in many areas it grows along both sides of highways in warm climate regions. But note: oleander is extremely toxic.

Silverweed cinquefoil

Potentilla is one of the most common and easiest-to-grow shrubs. It begins blooming in late spring and continues into autumn, with cheerful yellow, orange, red, or white flowers that look like single roses (attracting butterflies). It has attractive divided foliage.

Rock rose

Rock roses are easy to grow because they easily tolerate drought. They are also very beautiful, producing colorful rose-like flowers all summer long. They bloom in a range of colors from pink to purple, lavender, and white.

Smoke tree

It has feathery, spectacular foliage: the most common type has deep purple leaves that burst into colorful shades of yellow, orange, and red in autumn.

Japanese meadowsweet

Also known as Mahuangshao, Huoshaojian, and Japanese spiraea, it is an upright shrub of the genus Spiraea in the Rosaceae family, reaching up to 1.5 m in height; the branches are spreading and slender, cylindrical, and the winter buds are ovate
