At the turn of spring and summer, the temperature difference between day and night is large, and rain is also frequent. Succulents that are usually easy to care for start having more problems. So how do you avoid and save succulents from mold?

1.

Causes of mold in succulents

Mold on succulents is mostly related to watering, air humidity, and ventilation conditions. Succulents do not like damp, waterlogged environments. At the turn of spring and summer, some areas in the south are close to the plum rain season, with more rainfall, and improper care can easily lead to mold on roots, stems, and leaves.

In addition, if you water too much, the soil moisture will become too high, and the excess water cannot drain away in time. At this point the roots will rot, and then mold will follow.

2.

How to prevent mold in succulents

1) Strictly control rainwater

You can observe whether the leaves are plump. If they look slightly shriveled, water them moderately. Overwatering not only risks mold and rot, but also makes the fleshy stems and leaves grow deformed, affecting their appearance. Generally speaking, thin fleshy leaves need more water than thick ones.

Some gardening enthusiasts take their plants out to the balcony or terrace to "drink rainwater" whenever it rains, leaving them there for several days. This is very inappropriate. Being rained on should last one day at most. If they are soaked too much, once the sun comes out, the roots will rot.

2) Pay attention to ventilation

These plants are afraid of cold and also afraid of stuffy heat. When the temperature is high, they should be placed in a ventilated spot. If kept indoors, do not put them in a room that is kept closed all the time.

3.

How to save succulents from mold

1) Change the soil in time

If the roots have molded, you can cut away the affected parts and switch to sandy soil to continue growing them, which helps with drainage and moisture permeability.

2) Remove diseased leaves

Removing the diseased parts can block the spread of mold infection. Many succulents have very strong vitality. If there are too many diseased leaves, you can also pick off the healthy leaves and stick them in soil to replant.

3) Use chemicals to sterilize

Besides mold, temperatures rise in this season. If you still often expose them to strong sun, the leaves will age, discolor, and develop scorched tips. It is recommended to place them in a semi-shaded, semi-sunny environment.

As long as you master these care points, succulents can safely make it through the hot and rainy season.
