After propagating roses with potatoes, the flowers surprisingly smell like potatoes

I saw someone propagating roses with potatoes and thought it was really novel, so I tried it too, and the result was truly unexpected.
Steps:
1. Cut the cuttings (choose branches with plump buds after flowering, keep 2-3 nodes, and leave 1 pair of leaves at the top), and cut a potato in half;
2. Poke small holes in the potato (to prevent damage to the bark of the cuttings during propagation), and insert the cuttings into the potato;
3. Bury the potato with the cuttings inserted into the soil, and water thoroughly;
4. Cover it with half of a plastic oil jug (bottle) (to retain moisture, this is the key to successfully rooting rose cuttings)
5. After covering, pour some more water around the plastic bottle (this way the plastic bottle cover will be very stable);
6. Usually spray water inside through the gaps in the plastic bottle, then just wait, and finally the rose cuttings will root.
The flowers that finally bloomed actually had a potato-like smell, I do not know if it was an illusion!
