I see all kinds of potted green plants on many friends' desks, but their varieties are all the same. The most common ones are pothos, money tree, snake plant and English ivy. These look rather ordinary. If you want to grow some plants with distinctive looks that are suitable for placing in the office, the following ones are worth considering.

1. Dance of the Yaloo (Portulacaria afra f. variegata)

This is a delicately shaped succulent potted plant with excellent ornamental value. Its care method is similar to that of the elephant bush (Portulacaria afra). It likes a warm and dry environment year-round and has low water requirements. Water thoroughly once the potting soil dries out. Its position should ideally have some suitable scattered light, kept in a bright spot. Be careful to keep the environment ventilated and well-lit, avoid frequent watering, keep the minimum care temperature above 5 degrees, and when watering normally do not pour water directly onto the leaves.

2. Mini Monstera (Monstera obliqua)

Mini Monstera is also called the Swiss cheese vine (Monstera obliqua). Its leaves have a great many holes, a bit as if they were damaged by humans, which looks very distinctive. It also belongs to a variety of Monstera, and its care method is much the same. It is very suitable for keeping indoors on a desk.

Mini Monstera likes a warm and humid environment year-round. Cultivation requires loose, well-draining soil. The key point is to maintain a certain level of air humidity and avoid dry air, otherwise it easily causes yellowing and withered leaves.

3. Watermelon Peperomia (Peperomia argyreia)

The weather has been especially hot lately. If you keep a pot of watermelon peperomia, just looking at it makes you feel extra cool. Its leaves grow just like watermelon rind, and the leaves are very round and full, with particularly good ornamental value.

Caring for watermelon peperomia is also fairly simple. It likes a warm and humid indoor environment, has relatively high water requirements and relatively low light requirements. During the growing period, water it regularly, keep the soil moist and maintain a certain level of air humidity. In addition, be careful to avoid freezing, and keep the minimum care temperature above 7 degrees.

4. Red-veined Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura 'Erythroneura')

The red-veined prayer plant is a foliage plant very suitable for keeping indoors. This variety of ornamental Maranta looks especially lovely and charming. On the leaves, the leaf surface has red veins, and it has a very interesting phenomenon: in the daytime when there is plenty of light, the leaves spread open; in the dark environment at night, the leaves slowly curl up.

To care for the red-veined prayer plant, you must maintain a warm environment year-round with relatively high air humidity and avoid dry air. It has very low light requirements, so avoid strong sun or direct sunlight; just keep it in a bright spot. It can be grown in well-draining sandy soil, but water it regularly and avoid the soil becoming too dry.

5. Wax Plant (Hoya)

If you want to grow some easy-to-grow climbing plants on the windowsill, but you do not have time to care for them often, then the wax plant is a good choice. It has waxy leaves and stems, has very low water requirements and does not need much light.

However, the wax plant likes a warm, slightly dry environment year-round. As long as you keep the potting soil watered thoroughly once it dries out and give it suitable scattered light every day, it will grow well. If you give it a little dilute fertilizer in spring and autumn, it can even produce spherical flowers, with particularly good ornamental value.
