Flower balls bursting out of the security window bars, netizens amazed: how did she do it
Last autumn I bought a lot of flower seedlings. After months of care, they all exploded into bloom one by one in spring. The flower balls really are lovely, but the security window bars are packed to bursting and still can't fit them all. It's driving me crazy.
Every day I climb up to the security window bars, carry each pot inside one by one to water, and after they drain, carry each one back out again, so watering the flowers takes 3 hours every day.
The security window bars packed to bursting
Small seedlings in small pots, big seedlings in big pots. As long as there's enough space, go ahead and plant them in big pots. My pots are no more than 25 cm, and I have nowhere to grow giant flower balls. So frustrating.
First, the marguerite daisy flower balls. The biggest is a red-orange marguerite with a 70 cm spread. The flower ball is absolutely enormous.
Next up, the viola special. What I grow is viola, not pansy. One Alice 470 long planter holds 8 seedlings, so they quickly fill the pot. Actually, 4 or 6 plants would fill the pot too, but I sowed too many seedlings, so I had to plant them densely.
Now look at the pot-busting nasturtium and petunia, one plant per pot. Nasturtium grows really vigorously. This pot of mine now feels too small, because space is tight and I don't dare use a huge pot, otherwise the flower balls would be even bigger.
The security window bars on the south-facing balcony get 8 hours of sunlight in winter and about 6 hours in spring. Marguerite daisies like plenty of sunlight during the growing period. During the summer dormancy period, make sure to keep them ventilated, sheltered from rain and shaded.
Fertilizer: fish gills, fish guts and other waste from gutting fish, put into a large oil drum. A wider mouth makes it easier to fill. Half fish guts, half enzyme solution, bake in the sun for a year, and it's ready to use. Be sure to screw the lid on loosely.
If you don't have enzyme solution, you can buy EM bacteria on Taobao and add it when fermenting the fish gut fertilizer. It deodorizes and speeds up fermentation.
Other than that, there's no real technique to it, it's simple: pinching, sunlight, fertilizer and water, 3 key elements!
