Jiaozhou resident grows ginger bonsai, with a viewing period of up to five months and considerable returns

Evening News: As the saying goes, "Eat radish in winter and ginger in summer, and you'll stay healthy all year round." Ginger is not only the most common seasoning in the kitchen, but also has many benefits. 43-year-old Jiaozhou resident Song Mingxing accidentally discovered the business opportunity of ginger bonsai, and the ginger bonsai cultivated through substrate was favored as soon as it hit the market. At present, most of the 20,000 pots cultivated have been sold, and it is expected that the net profit from a complete sell-out can reach more than 200,000 yuan.
The reporter came to the Qingshuiyuan Ecological Park in Hepingzhuang Village, Jiaodong Subdistrict Office, and saw that the greenhouse was filled with flower pots. The ginger seedlings breaking through the soil looked particularly green after being sprayed, and Song Mingxing was inspecting the growth of the bonsai ginger in the greenhouse. According to Song Mingxing, in March last year, he saw that the ginger at home had sprouted, and with a try-it-and-see attitude, he buried the ginger in a flower pot. To his surprise, the stems and branches that grew were very similar to lucky bamboo. Placed at home, it had both the charm of bamboo, and the ginger leaves also gave off a faint scent, with a sterilizing effect. Many friends gave it likes after seeing it, so he had a bold idea and decided to cultivate ginger bonsai in large quantities.
"If you want bonsai ginger to grow well, you must find suitable soil. By consulting agricultural technicians, I formulated a substrate suitable for ginger growth that can be used continuously for four or five years," Song Mingxing said. The substrate he chose is made by combining wood powder, pine cones and microorganisms, emphasizing a safe and natural production method, eliminating the need for fertilizing, and the ginger that grows is very organic. Ginger has strict requirements for soil moisture. Usually, the bonsai ginger should be given more sunlight. If the substrate in the pot is dry, water it about once every week, and the ginger bonsai can grow very well. The viewing period of one pot of ginger bonsai is about 5 months, and after the viewing period ends, about one kilogram of ginger can also be harvested. This year he cultivated a total of 20,000 pots of ginger bonsai, with selling prices between 20 and 30 yuan. At present, most have been sold, and the net profit is expected to reach more than 200,000 yuan.
"Bringing potted ginger home not only allows citizens to enjoy the pleasure of planting and growing, but also serves as bonsai to beautify the home," Song Mingxing said. Selling ginger as bonsai is also a breakthrough in ginger marketing. Next, he plans to develop more varieties, planting tomatoes, mini cucumbers, colorful green peppers, miniature watermelons and grapes, etc., into flower pots, so that citizens can bring more varieties of potted plants home. Citizens can not only enjoy pastoral scenery within reach, but also enjoy the pleasure of harvest, making the balcony a beautiful scenic line.
