Now is a great time to plant. Taking cuttings now gives very high rooting and survival rates. Let's see how to take cuttings from various flowers!

Taking cuttings from kalanchoe

1. First, it is best to choose a kalanchoe that has finished blooming. Cut the branches into pieces about 5-8 cm long, leaving only one pair of leaves on each piece and trimming off the rest. Make a slanted cut at the bottom end so it roots faster.

2. Use sand or perlite as the cutting medium. Water it thoroughly, then plant the kalanchoe in it and press down gently. Keep it moist and place it in a ventilated spot without direct sunlight. It will root in half a month, and after a month it can be transplanted into a large pot.

3. Besides stem cuttings, kalanchoe can also be propagated from healthy leaves. The method is similar to stem cuttings, but new leaves grow relatively more slowly.

Taking cuttings from Christmas cactus

1. Cut off the leaf segments of the Christmas cactus, with 2-3 segments per piece. Do not take cuttings immediately after cutting; let them dry for about 2 days first so the wounds dry completely.

2. For the Christmas cactus cutting medium, you can use a 1:1 mix of nutrient soil and peat soil. Insert the Christmas cactus about 2 cm deep into the soil. Keep it in a ventilated spot, mist more and water less.

3. After about 2-3 weeks, the Christmas cactus will grow roots, and after 6-8 weeks it will grow tender leaves, with root hairs reaching about 3 cm. At this point it can be repotted and transplanted.

Taking cuttings from rubber tree

1. For rubber tree cuttings, it is best to choose one-year-old branches. Cut the branches into pieces about 15 cm long. After cutting, singe the end of the branch with an alcohol lamp, which both sterilizes it and stops the sap from flowing out.

2. Trim the leaves, leaving only 2-3 leaves. Insert into water and place in a spot with indirect light. Change the water about every 3 days, and you can mist the leaves regularly.

3. Water cuttings of rubber tree root quickly, and the survival rate is also higher than soil cuttings. White roots will grow in about 10-15 days. Generally, after 40-50 days, once new leaves have grown, transplant into a flower pot.
