Courtyard edging has its finer points, and paving the curb is even more thoughtful

Wherever there is a path, there seems to be curb stone, marking the boundary between the path and the soil, leading the path onward in endless extension. It is like an exquisite picture frame, framing all the flowers, plants and trees in the courtyard. It is also like God's paintbrush, and with a few strokes, it paints the courtyard into a pleasing ink-wash painting.

The flowers, plants and trees seem not yet to have emerged from summer

Still looking lush and verdant

Warm yellow light filters through the branches

Casting dappled shadows

Scattering just right across that pair of curb stones

Suddenly realizing

All along

We have been admiring the flowers, plants and trees

But have overlooked

This pair of curbs extending forward

Which are actually just as beautiful

Wherever there is a path

There seems to be curb stone

It marks the boundary between the path and the soil

Leading the path

Onward in endless extension

Sometimes

It is like an exquisite picture frame

Framing all the flowers, plants and trees in the courtyard

Within the frame

It is also like God's paintbrush

And with those strokes

Painting the courtyard into

A pleasing ink-wash painting
