Usually when we make bonsai, we use bonsai trees to imitate natural landscapes, such as trees in various postures in nature, or certain scenes, but it is rare to use bonsai to imitate paintings.

Today what we are talking about is a young man who got inspiration from a famous painting. It just so happened that he also had a tree whose shape was very close to this painting, so the young man turned the situation to his advantage and made this tree into something from the painting.

First, look at this painting. The name of this painting is The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Great Wave of Kanagawa. It is a very famous ukiyo-e woodblock print from Japan, depicting several fishing boats riding through huge waves in front of Mount Fuji.

The picture below is the young man's material, a shimpaku juniper. The trunk is just a simple big bend, very similar to that huge wave, right?

So the young man pruned the branches, wired them into shape, and made it look just like the towering waves in the painting.

The effect after finishing is somewhat similar. Of course, when this work is exhibited, that painting must be brought over and hung behind it, otherwise others will not know what this thing of yours is.
