The little-known inside story behind tea prices

Pu'er tea is one of the most popular everyday beverages, with benefits such as lowering blood pressure, fighting cancer, reducing lipids, sobering you up and helping with weight loss. Whether you drink it yourself or give it to relatives and friends, it is a good choice.

But in recent years, the price of Pu'er tea has kept rising, and high-end teas costing thousands of yuan or even tens of thousands of yuan are not uncommon on the market. Many tea lovers have even paid a high price only to buy Pu'er tea of ordinary quality.

What inside stories lie behind the high prices? How exactly can you buy good Pu'er and taste something natural and healthy? Today I will tell you about it using things I have experienced myself.

The "price butcher" from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan

Xishuangbanna in Yunnan is my hometown. Its rich tea resources have benefited later generations. Countless Yunnan tea farmers have worshipped the tea god and made a living from tea for generations, passing it down from generation to generation. My family is one of them.

"You are a daughter of tea, and only with an honest heart can you make honest, good tea." This is the sentence my father said to me most often from childhood.

Carrying my father's hopes, I chose to major in tea production at university. After graduating, I returned to my hometown and found that some unscrupulous merchants had slipped into the Pu'er tea world to make a quick fortune. When many tea merchants came to buy tea, they drove the price very low. "Growing tea makes no money" had already become deeply fixed in the hearts of the villagers. The tea leaves the villagers worked hard to pick were bought by tea merchants at depressed prices, then resold to tea lovers at high prices.

While poverty tormented the villagers, it also left the tea gardens here abandoned. My father was both angry and resentful about this, and was also racking his brains over how tea lovers could buy first-hand Pu'er tea. After thinking it over for a long time, he resolutely decided not to let tea merchants act as middlemen and earn high margins, and to become the "price butcher" of Yunnan Pu'er tea.

I am a tea farmer, and I speak for my own Pu'er tea.

Our own tea garden, avoiding middlemen taking a cut,

Xiaoting guarantees you pay only 30% of the usual tea price,

so tea lovers can drink authentic ancient-tree tea.

Let's walk together into the organic tea garden of Mengzhao Xiaogong

The Mengzhao Xiaogong ancient tea garden is located in a primeval forest more than 75 km from my home. Few people live here, the average altitude is 1700 m, the annual rainfall is 1600 mm, the average annual temperature is 15°C, and the sunshine duration is 7.5 h. It is a growing environment for top-grade ancient-tree Pu'er.

The Mengzhao Xiaogong ancient tea forest is shrouded in mist and clouds all year round. To this day, a large number of wild ancient tea trees remain, and the primeval ancient tea forest and modern tea gardens coexist, forming a natural museum of tea trees.

My father, who "does not earn money against his conscience", has long insisted on organic cultivation and management in the ancient tea garden, completely eliminating pesticides and chemical fertilizers to achieve a "purely ecological" nature. This is the first main standard and bottom line of "making good tea".

(Forest right certificate for the contracted tea garden)

My father told me solemnly: As the very foundation on which tea farmers depend for survival, tea trees must not be neglected in their essential healthiness just to satisfy the appetite. We must resolutely reject tea with excessive pesticide residues, heavy metals and other harmful substances. Otherwise, how are we different from tea merchants?

(Test report for our own tea)

Through my father's years of effort, Mengzhao Xiaogong has passed strict "organic" certification. Adhering to the ancient tribute tea craft and carefully producing the tea, the product has a rich character, a sweet and mellow taste, and stays infusible for many steepings. Because the price is also reasonable, it is a fine choice for tea lovers from all walks of life to drink and treasure.

I am a tea farmer, and I speak for my own Pu'er tea.

If you are also a tea lover who values health and likes ancient-tree Pu'er

Xiaoting guarantees you pay only 30% of the usual tea price,

Mengzhao Xiaogong's traditional handmade tea-making method

Good raw materials matched with good craftsmanship: Mengzhao Xiaogong adheres to the ancestral fully handmade process to make Pu'er tea. Only in this way can the superior raw materials be ensured to suffer no damage, their inner qualities be retained to the greatest extent, and the quality be shown at its best. Thus, the highest-quality Pu'er tea is created.

Picking fresh leaves of ancient-tree tea

Our own picking strictly focuses on one bud and two leaves, because at this time the fresh leaves reach their best state in maturity and internal contents, laying a good foundation for the later aging of the finished Pu'er tea. This kind of Pu'er tea will become "the older, the more fragrant"!

"Withering" and "spreading to air"

Many people think there is no difference between "withering" and "spreading to air", but for traditional handmade tea-making, this is an unreasonable claim.

"Spreading to air" preserves the original internal substances in the tea leaves and creates the conditions for transformation during later storage.

Tea made through "withering" has a very high aroma and a dark red leaf base, so for Pu'er tea with a high aroma, withering is more conducive to "lifting the fragrance".

Fixation

The quality of fixation directly affects the quality of Pu'er tea. Mengzhao Xiaogong insists on using charcoal fire, an iron wok and handmade pan-firing for fixation. Handmade fixation requires the tea maker to have rich tea-making experience, to be able to control the heat well, and to keep the stirring frequency even and orderly.

Rolling

Hand rolling means using the hands to make the tea leaves into strips while breaking the cell tissues of the fresh tea leaves, so that the internal substances of the tea adhere to the surface of the tea leaves.

Sun drying

Sun drying is the key to forming the unique flavor of purely handmade Pu'er tea. When drying in the sun, the weather must be clear. The temperature affects the sun-drying time, and all of this must be decided based on experience.

Cake pressing

Mengzhao Xiaogong's traditional tea-making craft uses handmade stone-mill pressing, which makes the aroma and charm of the Pu'er tea better and is more conducive to later transformation.

Air drying

Place the formed tea leaves in a cool, ventilated place, and once the tea leaves are dry, they are ready.

Handmade cotton paper packaging

Pu'er tea packaging uses purely handmade cotton paper and handmade wrapping. Handmade cotton paper has strong breathability, which is good for long-term storage.

Mengzhao Xiaogong always insists on the purely handmade traditional tea-making method. Only handmade tea has a better taste and can better preserve the original fragrance of the tea leaves.

Three parts raw material, seven parts craftsmanship. Good tea leaves must come from good craftsmanship and a good ecology. Mengzhao Xiaogong is purely handmade, so every cake of Pu'er tea has a story inside it.

Artisan good tea, inviting you to appreciate it

Mengzhao Xiaogong uses original-ecology ancient-tree raw materials, matched with what is collectively called superb craftsmanship, creating the high-quality taste of good Pu'er.

(Ancient-tree ripe tea) (Ancient-tree raw tea)

A seasoned tea lover, after tasting Xiaoting's tea, even shared a doggerel: "First infusion water, second infusion tea, third and fourth infusions are the essence, fifth and sixth are not bad either, seven steepings still have fragrance, eight infusions still have flavor, ninth and tenth still leave an aftertaste." This fully illustrates the tea fragrance and steeping endurance of Mengzhao Xiaogong ancient-tree Pu'er.

What Xiaoting wants to say to you from the heart

From organic ancient tea gardens to traditional craftsmanship,

none of it is without the hard work of tea people.

If there is no one who understands it,

it will still only be regarded as an ordinary drink.

Tea people make tea with an artisan's heart,

and those who drink tea taste this gift of nature with a grateful heart.

Only then can a good cup of tea be achieved, and an artisan's heart be fulfilled.

I am a tea farmer, and I speak for my own Pu'er tea.

If you are also a tea lover who values health and likes ancient-tree Pu'er

Xiaoting guarantees you pay only 30% of the usual tea price,

and you can taste the tea farmer's artisan-quality Pu'er.

This Pu'er tea is better than what I bought from other sellers before. I used to buy from locals too, but maybe the craftsmanship is different. I feel this one really does taste better.

My father-in-law is getting older and his blood pressure and blood lipids are both on the high side, so he drinks a little Pu'er mini tuo tea as a preventive measure. The elderly man said it is quite good after drinking it, and now the amount of medicine he takes has also been reduced.

Xiaoting replies to Dreams Come True: Long-term drinking of Pu'er has a more obvious effect on lowering the three highs!

I bought it just to lose weight. It is quite tasty. It should be raw material from Guafengzhai, especially fragrant. It has had an effect. Not bad.
