Dangzi, a bamboo-petal lotus-form narcissus type, is listed as one of the traditional eight old varieties of Cymbidium faberi, a celebrated Cymbidium faberi variety - Dangzi
Dangzi, namely "Xiaotang Zixian", also known as "Dongting Chun". It was selected during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty (before 1865). It was sold from Suzhou on flower boats to Dangkou. At that time, a large clump of wild-collected Huilan grass was obtained, divided into four pieces and pressed into bamboo baskets, with more than half damaged; the boat was set adrift to sell them. A clump was bought in Dangkou Town and named "Dangzi", and another clump was also bought in Xitang Town and named "Xiaotang Zixian". The flowers of Dangzi are like the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi, possessing a beauty of elegance, liveliness and grace; it is one of my favorite old Cymbidium faberi varieties.
I have grown it for several years and in many pots; this year it bloomed, and it truly deserves to be called an excellent variety.
