Growing some beautiful potted flowers and plants at home not only brings eye-pleasing greenery, but also keeps you in a good mood all day long. The most important thing in home gardening is the soil and growing medium; only soil that is fertile, airy and loose can grow vigorous flowers and plants. How do you mix your own soil for growing plants? The method is actually simple, saves money and saves effort:

Usually people may just use the commercial potting soil they bought to grow plants, but soil you mix yourself can even be better. It just takes a little labor, and you can mix up better soil for growing plants yourself.

First, when you go out to the suburbs or the countryside, take a bag and a small trowel, and scoop some soil from a vegetable garden or a field; this is ordinary garden soil.

After bringing it home, you can spread it out in the sun for a few days, or disinfect and sterilize it with carbendazim or quicklime, or scald it with boiling water; all of these work.

Then add some leaf mold and pine needle soil. This soil can be made at home: just gather some pine needles, or dry grass, or fallen leaves, put them in a flower pot with soil, and after three months they become fertile leaf mold.

The nutrients in the soil are then sufficient. Although ordinary garden soil can be used directly to grow flowers, adding leaf mold plus some large-grained sand or crushed coal cinders makes it drain and breathe even better and less likely to compact.

Eggshells from the kitchen can be collected, and so can the okara left after making soy milk; once dried and worked into the soil, they are also very good fertilizer.

Fruit and vegetable scraps, placed in an empty flower pot with soil at the very bottom and the very top, also become fertile soil and fertilizer after three months.

Mix garden soil, leaf mold, crushed eggshells, coal cinders or large grains of sand, and so on, all together.

This is ideal for growing flowers and plants; the flowers grow beautifully and bloom continuously.

It can also be used to grow succulents; there is no waterlogging or root rot, and the roots can grow very healthy and strong.

With just a few simple steps you can make your own soil for growing plants. Give it a try.
