Succulents saved me when I couldn't hold on any longer

I completely agree that "life needs a sense of ritual," yet I also really dislike all the holidays we have now. Maybe it's because whenever these so-called holidays come around, I don't get a single gift, or maybe it's because of the moral bondage merchants create for every kind of holiday. In recent years the internet has developed so rapidly that holidays no longer have borders. We keep adding more and more foreign holidays to our lives, giving merchants more gimmicks to stimulate consumers into spending. Yet this business model hasn't made our lives any better; instead, our hearts feel emptier and emptier.

We just finished Mother's Day, and then it's 520, followed by the Dragon Boat Festival, Father's Day, Qixi... it's practically a mix of Chinese and Western holidays one after another. Will every day be a holiday in the future?

A friend asked me, why do we give roses instead of peonies on days for expressing love?

Actually I'm not really sure either, but to show off how knowledgeable I am, I made it up on the spot. I said: the habit of giving roses comes from Western mythology. We don't give peonies because their blooming period is short and they're hard to propagate, while roses, like Chinese roses (Rosa chinensis), bloom every month, are especially easy to propagate, can survive from cuttings, and give merchants more room for profit. On top of that, roses are a blazing red like a heart, which better expresses the three words "I love you."

After I said that, I started making phone calls, and my friend suddenly shouted: You're amazing, how did you know roses are Chinese roses? Baidu says they're both in the Rosaceae family. The red rose has a beautiful and moving legend behind it, so Westerners see it as a symbol of love.

-_-|| I feel like I've made a ditzy friend!

Many people say: the reason we have more and more holidays is that there's less and less happiness.

In today's fast-food society, everyone puts less and less thought into giving gifts.

No one is as sincere as Liu Feng in "Youth" (Fanghua), who made a pair of sofas as a gift for someone!

We all have our "assistants." Open your phone, place an order with one tap, and the "assistant" will immediately deliver whatever you want. No more racking your brain over what the other person actually needs, or what "I" think would make them especially happy or surprised... As long as flowers, bags, perfume, jewelry, chocolate... arrive on time, they won't make a fuss, and I save myself all the worry. If money can solve it, it's not a problem!

However, this kind of happiness is extremely short-lived.

In "Super Mom" (Mama Shi Chaoren), I learned a lot about love from the children. For example, Dalinzi especially adores his older brother Andi, and when it was time to leave, he wanted Andi to still think of him, so he insisted on buying bullfrogs to give to Andi. A child's world is actually quite wonderful, because they have innocent hearts.

Why can't we slow down the pace of life, slower and slower, and put our hearts into doing something meaningful for family, friends, and the people we love?

Even if it's just on a weekend off or after work at night, using the time you'd spend playing a few less rounds of games or scrolling your phone a bit less to plant a pot of succulents.

Give this pot of succulents, on a holiday or an ordinary day, to your parents, boyfriend or girlfriend, wife, husband, children, relatives and friends, and tell them: "I planted this with my own hands. I hope that whenever you see it, you'll think of me, because I love you very much."

Maybe on the upcoming Children's Day, Father's Day, Dragon Boat Festival, or Qixi, you'll give someone you love a pot of succulents, or perhaps you'll also receive a pot of succulents lovingly prepared for you by someone who loves you. Anything is possible.

Let's try to slow down the pace of life a little and feel the surprises life brings us.

We should turn the most sour lemon life gives you into a cup of sweet lemonade.
