Since I started growing succulents in '13, I still wouldn't dare call myself an experienced grower; I can only say I have always worked hard to grow my succulents well. This is also the reason I kept hesitating to submit an article, but seeing so many succulent friends bravely share and exchange experience with everyone, I also took a step I had delayed for a long time. Please give me lots of guidance.
This is my overall succulent-growing environment, a large south-facing balcony. Because it is a high floor, for safety it is impossible to extend racks outside. I thought of countless ways and finally managed to grow part of my succulents outdoors, but compared with succulent friends who have a purely outdoor growing environment, I can only feel envy, jealousy and hate. In a limited environment, I do my utmost to grow my succulents well. Through spring, summer, autumn and winter, the succulents bloom with their own unique beauty belonging to each season. I also rarely use grow lights, so I count as a laid-back succulent grower!
First to appear are the mixed arrangement and the old-timers that have been with me for several years. This mixed pot was brought in during winter and took especially long to establish, but after establishing it spread out, mini and cute. Balcony space is limited, so not every succulent can live in a single room. Grow up quickly, and in the future I will change you into beautiful houses.
This large mixed arrangement is all leaf propagations or small seedlings given free with succulent purchases; put together they are very cute.
A Lithops mixed arrangement.
In the past I grew everything, and the more varieties the better. Those succulents also stretched out beyond the sky. Now I only love a few varieties, and I like beauty and refinement, and I like having the energy to take good care of every pot of succulents, so the number of succulents has dropped greatly. There are also a great many succulent babies I raised from small. This pot of Ice Jade stayed with me through summer, sunning out blood-red spots, then fading, then sunning out again, and it has never been especially plump. This year when I repotted it I added more peat, so let's see how it turns out.
This Jade Plant (Crassula ovata 'Gollum') has been here since not long after I started growing succulents; it is the oldest succulent. Succulents that have made it through summer feel especially tough and easy to grow. Bring me good luck.
A cluster of 'Halo'. When sunlight is abundant, it suns to a creamy white, yet the leaf tips have red points, very beautiful. A must-grow variety, currently shaping itself.
Echeveria 'Allen'. It used to be a variety I did not like very much, but after it accompanied me through summer I found that when it plumps up it is truly beautiful. I like that it has recently pupped; I hope it gets plumper and plumper.
Two 'Xiaomixing' (Sedum 'Little Star') put together, a variety that is especially easy to fill a pot, and also very easy to color up in the sun, extremely beautiful.
'Crayon' (Sedum 'Crayon') is also very tough and easy to grow. A few years ago it was expensive, and now it has gradually become cheaper. I have grown it for a long time, and it has filled the pot.
My Graptoveria 'Amethorum' is too thin, not plump enough. Wuhan summers are too hot and stuffy, so I do not dare put in too much peat and mainly use gritty soil. Could this be the reason it has never been plump enough?
Tia (Echeveria 'Tia'). In winter its color is blood-red; now it has begun to fade a little, but that does not stop me from still loving it. My own baby, I like it however it looks, and its shape is nicely styled.
On Xiuyan (Echeveria 'Suyon') you can unfortunately clearly see the traces of summer's cruel ordeal. I forgot to mention that in summer I basically did not shade them either; on a high floor, shade cloth has no way to take root. When the temperature was too high I moved them all onto the flower racks inside the balcony. Succulents that make it through summer are heroes, especially since last summer a pane of glass on the balcony was even sun-cracked. I am truly proud of them, their tenacious vitality.
Lawrence is the same, still carrying withered leaves.
Snow Claw, still recovering from sunburn.
Luna Lotus.
Sunburned Yangjin.
Mountain Rose, also grown for several years, about to go dormant.
Suepya, also a warrior that made it through summer, becoming beautiful.
Jilian controlled into a small old stem, especially beautiful, a bit like Korean stock.
Hera cluster, also a succulent that easily shows its condition and is especially tough.
Originally a few cuttings taken from my good buddy, now it has already filled the pot. Keep working hard, waiting to change you into a bigger house.
This pot of Cat's Eye has been with me for almost 3 years. It has not visibly grown; instead it has been controlled smaller and smaller, and the color has become more and more beautiful. The blood-red has never faded. This spring I changed them all into beautiful pots; just looking at them lifts my mood. Pleasing myself, very good.
Vanilla is also a variety many people love, but it is not very easy to grow; in summer it is prone to black rot. I have lost several pots. I hope this pot that came through winter can be raised well.
Baby Fingers, a fake cluster, put together, not born from the same mother. Under the same care conditions the condition differs greatly, which fully shows the importance of genes.
White Moon Shadow.
Cute Rose.
Snow Angel, feels different from Orange Monroe, a big bun.
Snowball. I have no resistance at all to Moon Shadow series succulents. Although in summer it will turn green into a pot of vegetables, please let me keep this beauty of late spring.
Yubei Dongyun, its color is very beautiful in winter, and now it has begun to fade. It does not matter, being alive is most important.
Black Rose, grown into Yellow Rose already?.
Berry, a variety I love very much, I have many pots, let me choose one representative to come out.
Ivory, from last winter when it established until now, in order to establish it I kept giving lots of water, and as a result it turned green.
This pot was bought from a succulent friend; she especially recommended it. At first when I bought it I did not feel anything, but only when I potted it did I find it really sets off the succulent. Look, paired with a yellow-skinned Ebony, isn't it stunning? This Ebony was obtained from a very special girl, and I especially like it.
An Ebony grown for many years; when I got it, it was very cheap. It feels especially worthy, and this spring I turned the soil and repotted it. Is the new home comfortable?
Qinxin.
Orca.
Peach Egg, needless to say, a variety most growers will like. Although getting through summer is so tiring, it still cannot stop my love for it. Round and plump, simply leaving people no resistance at all.
Takasago no Okina, grown for many years, controlled to stay small.
Tree Ice, silent for many years, has begun to pup.
This White Chrysanthemum from Korea has a particularly thick little stem. Since arriving home it has worked especially hard to grow its stem, and it established very obediently, not making me worry. Great, and now it has even put out a small flower stalk. I am torn over whether to keep it or cut it off.
Another pot of White Chrysanthemum.
White Chrysanthemum beginning to split heads. White Chrysanthemum is my favorite, without exception.
Looking forward to it splitting heads and becoming a big collection.
Get through summer well!
Ice Berry little bun.
Snow Rabbit
Blue Vulture.
Rainbow Candy cluster.
Yuanluo.
Cinnabar Mole, a baby has come out at the bottom, simply a surprise.
Conophytum, it has swelled up. I do not know when it will split heads; I really want to help it split heads by hand, but I held back.
Benba raised from a small pup.
A 10-head Green Leaf, like a small tree.
Apple Leaf, a bargain find, very cheap. Raise it well and strive to make it beautiful.
Last to appear is friendly sponsorship, a leaf-propagation Seal sent by my good buddy. In this world, having a friend with the same hobby as you is the most pleasant thing. Shout out to my good buddy.
The Apple Leaf given by my good buddy occupies the best spot in my home for growing succulents. True love is probably no more than this, haha! I hope everyone's succulents get more and more beautiful, and your mood is great every day! With friends, with a loved one, with family by your side, in this bustling world, accompanied through the red dust, live up to the spring light and live up to you!
