Rose plants under attack by red spider mites and aphids? Teach you to make your own insecticide and get rid of them easily

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Although roses are beautiful, none can escape the ravages of aphids and red spider mites. Just seeing those little bugs makes your scalp tingle. The insecticides you buy not only fail to kill them, but the smell makes your family uncomfortable too. Don't worry, Huahua has a surefire trick!

Aphids, red spider mites

Aphids

Aphids, also called honeydew bugs or greasy bugs, are the most headache-inducing pest when we grow vegetables and flowers. They reproduce fast and do serious damage, and once the temperature goes above 12°C they start reproducing rapidly

Red spider mites

Red spider mites, also called leaf mites, can reproduce a new generation every week. The more roses are grown on balconies, the more easily red spider mites breed!

How to get rid of aphids and red spider mites for good?

I'm sure many flower lovers have tried buying pesticides to kill the bugs, but the results are never ideal. Actually, there are plenty of "insecticides" right at home you can use. Quick DIY, no need to ask anyone for help!

1. Crush them off by hand

If you grow roses at home, be sure to check them often. As soon as you spot little bugs, immediately crush them off by hand or with toilet paper

If your rose has a lot of thorns, be sure to wear thick gloves

2. Release seven-spot ladybugs

The seven-spot ladybug is the natural enemy of aphids. Catch a few seven-spot ladybugs in the countryside or a botanical garden and put them on the rose; they'll start eating right away and not a single aphid will be left!

Seven-spot ladybugs love eating aphids most of all, and they have no interest in roses, so not only can they eat all the bugs, they do no harm at all to our flowers!

3. Spray with a water bottle

Use a high-pressure water bottle to spray at the aphids and blast them away, blast them away! It really feels so satisfying

4. Chili pepper water

Chop dried chili pepper shells roughly, then soak them in water overnight. The next morning, first water the rose with a little clean water so it drinks its fill, then spray the bugs with the chili water filtered to remove the pepper shells

Chili water irritates and kills aphids and red spider mites, and it also irritates roses, so let the rose drink its fill of water first before using it. Be careful to spray directly at the bugs, and don't spill it into the potting soil

5. Laundry detergent water

200ml clean water + 15ml laundry detergent + 3ml cooking oil, stir well, pour into a small spray bottle, and it kills bugs like a champ~

Before spraying, still water the rose with clean water first, to prevent the rose from absorbing the laundry detergent water. The oil is added to make the solution stick to the leaves and suffocate the bugs

6. Soap water

Bar soap : water = 1:300. Mix according to this ratio, then use a small toothbrush or cotton pad dipped in soap water to wipe the rose leaves with bugs

Soap water is highly alkaline and also has a disinfecting and sterilizing effect, so it can precisely kill the little bugs!

7. Tobacco shred water

Take the tobacco shreds out of one cigarette, soak them in 200ml clean water, let them soak overnight, then use the liquid to wipe the leaves with bugs

Neither aphids nor red spider mites can stand the smell of tobacco leaves, and they'll be fumigated to death in no time

8. Garlic water

Peel one head of garlic clean, smash it with the flat side of a knife, then add 300ml clean water and soak for 1-2 days, and a super potent insecticide is ready

Pour the fermented garlic water into a small spray bottle and spray it right at the bugs, and its power is simply endless!

9. Dish soap water

Dish soap : clean water = 1:500. Stir well, then let it sit until the foam disappears before using

You can pour it into a spray bottle to spray the little bugs, or use a wet wipe dipped in it to wipe the leaves. Try not to spill it into the flower pot, so as not to harm the rose

10. Mosquito coil fumigation

Hang a mosquito coil tray near the rose bush, and it can fumigate to death the bigger aphids and red spider mites

If a smaller rose has bugs, after lighting the mosquito coil you can cover it with a large cardboard box. This makes the mosquito coil smoke more concentrated and the insecticidal effect better, but be careful about fire safety!
