These days the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) is becoming more and more popular. Its strange, claw-like shape is one of its signature features. The greatest joy of growing a Christmas cactus is catching a glimpse of what this exaggerated-looking plant looks like when it blooms, but growing a Christmas cactus often doesn't go the way people want, especially when it refuses to bloom for a long time, and many people say the Christmas cactus is hard to grow. In fact, when a Christmas cactus doesn't bloom, it's not that the plant is hard to grow - we just need to pour a little of "it" in, and it will produce more flowers than leaves!

First, let's go over the everyday care issues of the Christmas cactus:

1. Soil issues. The Christmas cactus isn't very demanding about soil; you just need to make sure drainage is good. It has fleshy roots, so it is very afraid of waterlogged conditions - once water accumulates, the roots will rot. The soil mix we most commonly use for Christmas cactus is roughly a blend of peat, leaf mold and peanut shells, which drains extremely well, and the soil tends to be acidic, which perfectly matches the Christmas cactus's growing habits.

2. Light issues. Light is a big issue for the Christmas cactus, because it is a short-day plant - the light period can't be too long or too short. When people are busy, it's hard to keep up with this lighting issue for the Christmas cactus. But that's how growing flowers is: if you want to grow them well, you have to find the time. With a long-term lack of light, the Christmas cactus will very easily wilt, or even fail to produce flower buds.

3. Fertilizer issues. The Christmas cactus loves fertility, and fertile soil can supply it with nutrients. Especially during the growing period, giving the Christmas cactus more fertilizer helps it grow faster. And if you want the Christmas cactus to bloom, it's best to fertilize it every month. I recommend applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which strongly promotes flowering in the Christmas cactus. Prepare phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before the flowering period to ensure the Christmas cactus can bloom.

A little trick to share here: pour a bit of waste oil into the Christmas cactus. The waste oil comes from the range hood in our home, and we pour a little around the edge of the Christmas cactus pot - 30ml is enough. Oily substances are very helpful for plant growth, and the Christmas cactus is no exception. This method is simple and practical. Don't use it too much in a year - two or three times is enough.

I wonder if everyone has learned something? Pour a little of "it" into the Christmas cactus, and it will produce more flowers than leaves. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you all for your strong support!
