Introduction

Potted foliage plants are essential decorative items for home life, as they can both beautify the home and lift the spirits. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary · Issue 1003" introduces you to an orchid suitable for beginners to grow.

Today's Featured Plant

Orchids are plain yet elegant, beautiful without being vulgar, with a distant fragrance, perfectly matching Chinese aesthetics. They have been deeply loved since ancient times and are revered as one of China's top ten famous flowers, and to this day they remain one of the most important indoor potted plants in Chinese households. However, there are many varieties of orchids, and growing them in pots is somewhat difficult, so this issue introduces a variety that is easy to grow and suitable for beginners.

Red Sky

This flower is named "Red Sky" and belongs to the Cymbidium ensifolium four-season orchid group. It is a new variety hybridized from Cymbidium ensifolium and Cymbidium hybridum (large-flowered cymbidium), combining the abundant blooming and frequent flowering of the four-season orchid with the large, brilliantly colored flowers of the large-flowered cymbidium. Its flowers are rosy red, with well-formed blooms very similar to Miss Korea, and its leaves are emerald green and glossy. Both flowers and foliage are beautiful, giving it high ornamental value.

Very long blooming period

Red Sky has the genes of the four-season orchid, so its blooming period is very long. With proper care, it can bloom three times a year, making it the most frequent bloomer among orchids, perhaps even without equal. Moreover, it sends up multiple spikes at once when it blooms, and a single spike can bear several flowers at the same time. Not only does it bloom frequently, but its growth is also very vigorous, dividing continuously every year, giving orchid growers a great sense of accomplishment.

Very easy to grow

Red Sky also has the genes of the large-flowered cymbidium, so the plant is robust with a well-developed root system, making it very easy to cultivate. It does not even require special orchid soil; a mix of ordinary garden soil plus nutrient soil will do. Daily care is about the same as for ordinary foliage plants like pothos and spider plant: water when the potting soil is dry, and leave it alone when it is not. It is as easy to grow as grass (orchids are basically wild grasses, just too beautiful, so they were brought home from the mountains~~).

An excellent choice for bonsai

What people praise most about Red Sky is its floral fragrance. Ordinary large-flowered cymbidiums have no scent, but Red Sky inherited the excellent genes of Cymbidium ensifolium, and its flowers are extremely fragrant, even more fragrant than Cymbidium goeringii (spring orchid). Keep one pot indoors, and a single plant can scent an entire room, with a delicate fragrance overflowing throughout the hall. It is a rare excellent choice for Lunar New Year flowers and an excellent plant for bonsai.
