Everyone is familiar with tree stumps; they are very common things, and anyone who likes bonsai should have tried working with them. I wonder if you, who like bonsai, are like this too. My grandpa loves growing potted green plants, and when he has nothing to do he goes up the mountain to dig up tree stumps. Well, last year he found an old tree stump on the mountain, and after growing it until now it actually produced flowers in two colors. Later he learned it was worth several hundred per jin. He really made a profit.
This plant is honeysuckle (Japanese honeysuckle, Lonicera japonica). When Grandpa dug this stump home, it probably had not yet grown into shape, so it was still impossible to tell what was different about it. Unexpectedly, after this honeysuckle stump bonsai had been grown for a while, it produced beautiful flowers, and in two colors at that. This was truly unheard of.
Later Grandpa looked it up. The reason this happened with the honeysuckle was that it was not native here and had been introduced from elsewhere. This kind of old stump, having gone through the vicissitudes of time, is extremely valuable.
In fact, friends who like honeysuckle can get a pot of it. Making it into a potted plant or bonsai are both good choices, and honeysuckle is also a good thing: it clears heat and detoxifies, and can be brewed as tea. Of course, there are also many different varieties. Good honeysuckle tea costs several hundred per jin on the market.
