Techniques for Coordinating Wedding Colors and How to Express Them
The floral design and arrangement at a wedding venue involve the use of color on a large scale and in a broad environment. Therefore, as a floral designer, one must have a comprehensive understanding and command of color coordination and the various relationships of expression.
The Character of Color
The character of color refers to the use of contrasts such as warm and cool, and light and dark, in color coordination to express different personalities and preferences. For example, black represents persistence, aloofness and defensiveness; gray represents sincerity, steadiness and refinement; white represents purity, holiness, kindness and openness; dark blue represents conservatism, conventionality and pragmatism; coffee brown represents stability, calm, peace and friendliness; red represents passion, sensuality and confidence; pink represents gentleness, sweetness and romance; purple represents elegance, romance, and so on.
The Psychological Perception of Color
In different colors and environments, people's psychological perception of color also differs. Therefore, in wedding floral design, we should pay attention to using this point to create an ideal color environment for the wedding venue.
In a warm-color environment, people's perception of time becomes very hurried; on the contrary, in a cool-color environment, people's perception of time is more relaxed.
Warm colors give people a feeling of warmth. At a red-themed wedding venue, if the indoor temperature is also relatively high, people waiting for the wedding ceremony to begin easily become restless and feel that time passes very slowly. At a blue-themed wedding venue, however, because of the influence of color, guests' moods become much calmer, so they feel that time passes quickly, and thus they are less likely to become restless.
The Weight of Color
In different color contrasts, dark colors give people a sense of steadiness, while light colors give a sense of lightness. For example, of two identical boxes, one black and one white, the white box feels lighter, while the black box feels heavier. Therefore, when you and your floral designers carry out floral design and arrangement at a wedding venue, you must not neglect the use of the weight of color.
The Temperature of Color
According to the division of color systems, colors are divided into cool colors and warm colors, as many people know. Red is a warm color and blue is a cool color, so what do these mean for floral designers in the process of floral design and production? For example, when summer is about to arrive and a couple needs to hold an outdoor wedding, choosing red will make guests feel restless, while yellow can let everyone feel fresh and bright; and if it is by the sea, a blue-and-white pairing would also be chosen to blend into the atmosphere of the sea and sky merging into one color. Therefore, when wedding floral designers serve customers, they should give reasonable suggestions for the floral arrangement at the wedding venue. Appropriate color and temperature can change everyone's experience and evaluation of the overall floral color design.
