Hello everyone, today we're going to talk about how to bring a withered, nearly dead pennywort back from the brink and get it to fill its pot again. Actually, it's very simple

This pot of pennywort was bought over a month ago. When it first came home, the leaves were very large. I deliberately ran an experiment: only watering, no fertilizing, and it even dried out a few times in between. After one month, the results are in. I believe many friends have also ended up growing their pennywort like this

Why does it end up looking so wilted? Take a look at its potting soil. The pennywort we buy always comes in this very hard yellow clay soil, which lacks nutrients. If you don't supplement fertilizer in time, it will show signs of nutrient deficiency

Look at the pennywort's root system: it grows very fast, but it can't push down into the yellow clay soil. Even if you fertilize and water, the compacted soil blocks the roots from absorbing anything. Add to that being short of water a few times now and then, and the pennywort will show wilting, yellow leaves, curling, and small leaves

So how should it be treated?

1. Cut off all these yellowed leaves, in other words give it a big bald buzz cut, keeping only the roots. You can cut it into several pieces to divide into pots, or simply put the rhizomes into a larger flower pot and cover them with a thin layer of soil

2. Replace the pennywort's yellow clay soil with loose, breathable soil, so the pennywort's roots can easily push into the soil

3. Fertilize two to three times a month, using a multi-element fertilizer. You can buy this kind of compound fertilizer and fertilize at a 1:1000 ratio. Apply light fertilizer frequently, and never let it go short of water

4. Water it plenty and give it more sun. The leaves will become very glossy, so green they look black, with large leaves and thick, sturdy stems
