A comprehensive rundown of practical gardening tools: to do a good job, one must first sharpen one's tools

Since falling into the rose-growing rabbit hole, I've bought more and more flowers and pots, piled up more and more soil and fertilizer,
and hoarded all kinds of gardening tools that get more and more professional, with the occasional upgrade or refresh...
What tools can help us better complete all kinds of tasks,
and save us more time and energy?
Today, let's have a detailed chat about it.
- Essential for beginners -
Gardening gloves
The first thing I must bring out is gardening gloves.
Roses have many thorns, and some varieties are practically "spiked clubs". A pair of practical gloves can protect us from rose thorn injuries when pruning and fertilizing.
Whatever you do, don't follow Uncle Wolf's example of prune with bare hands like a rough tough guy!
Every time before recording a video, I tell him to wear gloves, and he always finds a moment to quietly take them off... As a result, he often either gets a gash or gets pricked by thorns.
Flower trowel
The flower trowel is also a tool with a very high appearance rate in the garden.
Small, light and easy to control, it is needed for planting roses, loosening soil, changing soil, adding new soil and transplanting.
However, I actually think it's more fun sometimes to dig into the soil directly with your hands.
Watering tools
A watering can has two main purposes: one is to water the roses; the other is to serve as a container for various chemicals. It is recommended to choose a spray bottle with a good misting effect, for better spraying results.
For gardening friends who grow dozens or even hundreds of pots of roses, a multi-function water gun is also worth considering, as it lets you freely adjust the spray mode and makes daily watering very easy.
Garden shears
Roses cannot do without scissors.
A perfect pair of garden pruning shears generally has a round or streamlined blade edge with a sharp cutting edge, which can not only cut a perfect cross-section, but also puts little pressure and damage on the branches.
Household scissors hurt roses, so don't ask me why again~
- Advanced tools -
Besides the essential gardening tools above, in specific tasks we may also use the following equipment:
Climbing for climbing roses
Obelisks, arches and fences are the most useful climbing supports for climbing roses, and they look super good too.
If you need to train them onto a building wall, then you need supports, such as installing a trellis, driving long nails, or running wires.

Daily pest control and spraying
To better care for these "medicine jars", besides keeping various chemicals on hand at home, you can also install some insect sticky traps near the roses.

Yellow sticky boards can trap and kill aphids, whiteflies, tobacco whiteflies, planthoppers, leafhoppers, leafminer flies, etc.; while blue sticky boards can trap and kill insects such as seed flies and thrips.
When weighing small amounts of chemicals, you may also use: measuring spoons, droppers, small dispensing bottles... (It feels like being back in middle school chemistry lab class~)
Sun protection and care
On sweltering sauna days under the scorching sun, remember to install shade netting for roses grown outdoors.

Especially for friends in southern regions, particularly from 11 am to 2 pm, when the sun is too harsh, it can scorch the flowers if you're not careful.
We generally use two-to-three-pin shade netting for roses.
Testing soil health
"To grow flowers, first grow the soil." Only good soil can produce robust rose flowers.
Previously, Uncle Wolf recorded a video on rose growing media, in which he mentioned a magical tool: a "soil EC meter".

It can accurately test the salt content in the soil, preventing the situation where too high a salt level makes roses very likely to die. (I just searched on Taobao, and yes, it does exist.)
Putting roses in a vase
To move roses from the branch to the vase, we need a small tool: a thorn stripper.
The method of use is also very simple: hold the flower with the left hand, grip the thorn stripper with the right hand, and smoothly remove the thorns and leaves from the rose, then you can beautifully arrange your favorite flowers in a glass vase.
Labels, gauze netting, cutting trays, grafting film,
……
there are still many, many practical small tools;
not to mention the various tools designed and made by gardeners with super strong hands-on skills.
Although there are more and more tools,
when you see the tools neatly arranged on the balcony and in the storage room, there is an inexplicable sense of satisfaction!
END
Let's have a small discussion
Do you have any awesome tools?
The kind that is especially satisfying and powerful for growing roses!
