Growing orchids indoors makes a home look more elegant; one good orchid can keep a person growing it for a lifetime.

People often say that a home is "not elegant without an orchid," which is praise for the refined and serene charm orchids bring. For thousands of years they have been deeply loved, because growing orchids, admiring orchids and appreciating orchids have become topics people delight in, and also a way to cultivate noble character.

I have loved growing orchids for many years, and I have also known quite a few veteran orchid growers. I have a special fondness for orchids. In the hearts of Chinese people, orchids are a symbol of purity and elegance, and together with "plum, bamboo and chrysanthemum" they are called the "Four Gentlemen." The term "orchid chapter" is usually used to describe the beauty of poetry and prose, and "orchid friendship" to describe true friendship. Seasoned flower lovers never tire of talking about this. Though orchids may seem unassuming, their fragrance carries far and their air is clear, their bearing is noble, and their fame has passed down through the ages.

Growing orchids can cultivate the mind and character. Carefully tending each orchid and watching them grow healthily brings a great deal of joy.
