How to grow Chinese roses? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
To grow Chinese roses, use loose, well-draining sandy loam soil and give them a growing environment of 18-20°C. They need plenty of sunlight and moderate watering. To propagate, you can use cuttings or sowing, and you should also watch out for pest problems.

I. Growing environment

1. Soil: Chinese roses like fertile, moist soil; loose, well-draining sandy loam is the best choice.

2. Temperature: The suitable temperature for Chinese rose growth is 18-20°C. If the temperature reaches 25°C, growth will speed up, but the flowering period will become shorter; if the temperature reaches 30°C, not only will the flowers be small, but pests and diseases are also very likely to appear; if the temperature is below 5°C, they will enter a dormant state and stop growing.

3. Light: Chinese roses can only grow better with sufficient sunlight. Give them at least 5-6 hours of light every day. If the light is too weak, they will become leggy or the flower color will fade. At noon during high summer temperatures, appropriate shading measures are needed.

4. Watering: When new branches and leaves grow, water once every 2 days; when buds appear, water once a day; during the flowering period, water once in the morning. The soil must not be too dry or too wet. In summer, you can often spray water on the leaves to cool them down.

II. Propagation methods

1. Cutting propagation: Usually choose spring or early autumn for cuttings. First peel the bark on the plant, and after callus tissue forms, cut off the branch for cuttings.

2. Sowing propagation: The sowing spacing is generally 3 cm. After sowing, cover with a layer of sand and water thoroughly. Seedlings will emerge in about 40 days.

III. Common pests

1. Aphids: After being damaged, black secretions will appear. During their egg-laying period, imidacloprid and abamectin can be used alternately for control.

2. Sawflies: Holes will appear in the leaves, and in severe cases they will even eat the young shoots clean. Chemical spraying should be used when the pest occurs.
