What are the cultivation methods and precautions for pennywort (Hydrocotyle vulgaris)?
I. Growing environment
1. Soil: It does not have high requirements for soil, and can even grow in poor soil, but it likes loose soil with good water retention best.
2. Fertilizing: During its peak growing season, apply fertilizer once every 15-20 days. If it is grown in pots or containers, then reduce the amount of fertilizer appropriately.
3. Watering: It likes to grow in a moist environment. In summer, water it in time to raise the air humidity. In winter, the pot soil should be kept slightly dry, with no standing water to avoid root rot.
4. Temperature: Pennywort grows better at a temperature of 10-25°C. It likes a warm and humid growing environment, but is not cold-tolerant. In winter, the lowest temperature must not be below 5°C, and in summer, the highest temperature must not be above 32°C. If the temperature is too high, it will enter a dormant state and stop growing.
II. Propagation method
Division propagation: Soak roots with 2 nodes in clean water for 2 days, and root hairs will grow at the nodes. Place the roots on culture soil, cover with a layer of soil, then place some crushed stones, and water until it covers the crushed stones. After about 4-5 days, small plants will grow. Replenish water frequently, generally best when the water can soak the crushed stones.
III. Common pests and diseases
Pennywort generally has relatively few pests and diseases. It has strong growth and adaptability and does not need special care. If it grows too densely, prune it and strengthen ventilation to prevent the plant from turning yellow.
