How to Grow Roses? Detailed Guide to Cultivation Methods and Precautions
1. Growing Environment
(1) Soil: The main requirements are rich nutrients, loose and breathable texture, and good drainage. You can choose to mix leaf mold and garden soil.
(2) Light: The plant loves light and needs plenty of sunlight, especially during the growing period. In summer, appropriate shading is sometimes also needed.
(3) Watering: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged during the growing period. Reduce watering in autumn and winter.
(4) Humidity: In summer, humidity needs to be increased by methods such as spraying water.
(5) Fertilizing: The main stage when it is needed is the growing period. Generally, applying liquid fertilizer about once every half month can meet the requirements. Be careful not to make the concentration too high.
2. Propagation Methods
(1) Cutting propagation: This is the most important method. Carry it out around February. Choose healthy branches about ten to fifteen cm long, preferably old wood. Cut off about one third of the leaves, and cut the bottom into a slanted edge. The substrate is best river sand, about five to seven cm. Insert the branch and water thoroughly. Be careful to provide shade, or place the plant in a cool place.
(2) In addition to the cutting method, commonly used methods also include division, layering, and so on.
3. Disease Control
The plant is prone to diseases, mainly caused by fungi. After cutting off the diseased leaves, Bordeaux mixture can be sprayed.
4. Pruning
The plant has a strong ability to sprout and grow, so it needs timely pruning, especially in hot, humid environments. Also, after flowering, pruning is also needed once.
