Reasons for Yellowing Leaves on Areca Palms and How to Fix Them

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are many reasons areca palm leaves turn yellow: if it is caused by improper watering, adjust the amount of water properly, neither too much nor too little. If it is caused by sunlight that is too strong, provide shade when the sun is intense. If it is caused by pests, use medication for prevention and treatment.

1. Water properly

The stems and leaves of the areca palm grow tall, and the nutrients and water the leaves need are mainly transported by the roots and stems. Watering a moderate amount more allows the roots to absorb faster, which benefits leaf growth, but if the soil is too wet, it weakens the roots' respiration, hinders water absorption, and ultimately causes the leaves to turn yellow.

Too much water is not acceptable, and likewise too little is not acceptable either; it needs enough water during growth, and if the soil lacks water for a long time, the water necessary for its growth cannot be guaranteed, which also causes the leaves to turn yellow.

So in normal times, control the amount of watering reasonably; you cannot water too much, nor too little.

2. Avoid direct sunlight

Its normal growth requires enough sunlight, but in summer when the sunlight is too intense, provide appropriate shade; during this period, if no shade is provided, the plant's leaves are very easily sunburned, which is the common summer sunscald disease, and the leaves become scorched and yellow. If effective measures are not taken in time, the whole plant will wither.

So in summer, you can move the plant to a shady place or under a large tree, and do not let it be exposed to direct sunlight.

3. Prevent and control pests and diseases

Spider mites, scale insects and the like are the harmful insects it is relatively prone to infection by; when its leaves are infected by scale insects or spider mites, the pests damage the plant, and its leaves begin to turn yellow.Once discovered, treat it with medication in time, otherwise it may die.
