Yingshanhong, also called azalea, is one of China's seven famous flowers, with an extremely large number of varieties; its blooms are vivid and colorful, its branches and leaves lush, and its ornamental value extremely high. "Among flowers, this one is Xi Shi; hibiscus and peony are both Mo Mu." In the poem, Yingshanhong is compared to the greatest beauty of ancient times, Xi Shi, which shows just how beautiful the azalea is.

Watering principle: follow the principle of "do not water until dry, and water thoroughly when you do," strictly avoiding half-watering. Under normal circumstances, in spring and autumn, water once every 2-3 days; in summer, 1-2 times per day, and it is best not to water at noon.

Yingshanhong is generally propagated by cuttings. The cuttings should be chosen from one-year-old branches with short internodes, robust growth, no pest or disease damage, and a woody base. The cuttings should be 6-10 cm long, with the temperature kept at 18°C-25°C. For most varieties, roots will form 40-60 days after cutting.

Wild Yingshanhong is not easy to grow in pots. Those used for potted display are generally horticultural varieties, which have relatively strong adaptability, tolerate shade, and are also easy to cultivate. Keeping one at home gives you flowers to enjoy in all four seasons; it is an excellent potted plant and fine material for bonsai.
