How to Grow Hyacinths? A Full Guide to Cultivation Methods and Precautions
I. Growing Environment
1. Soil: It is best to choose sandy soil with good drainage. Before planting, you can apply some base fertilizer to the soil to help it grow better.
2. Temperature: The suitable temperature is around 25°C. Generally, spring has the most suitable temperature for growing them.
3. Watering: Keep the soil sufficiently moist; the potting soil must not be too dry. When watering, it is best to choose the morning. When summer temperatures are high, you can spray a little water into the room or around it to maintain air humidity.
4. Light: Give it an appropriate amount of light. If the light duration is too long or the light is too intense, it will cause the flowering period to shorten; if the light is too weak, it will not be able to grow normally, and the leaves will also turn yellow.
II. Propagation Methods
1. Seed propagation: Disinfect the soil. After sowing, cover with 1cm of soil. Generally, it will sprout by the next spring.
2. Bulb division propagation: Separate the small bulbs around the mother bulb and plant them. Coat the cut area with plant ash to prevent rot, place it in the sun for 1-2 hours, and after autumn, they can be divided and planted.
III. Common Diseases
1. Yellow rot: After being affected, yellow-brown lesions appear on the leaves, and the bulb also begins to rot. Before planting, disinfect the soil; for water culture, use uncontaminated water. Once detected, you can spray with carbendazim solution, spraying once every 2-3 days.
2. Root nodule disease: It generally harms the roots, and small nodules appear on the root system. Severe damage can lead to death. Before planting, disinfect, ensure good ventilation, promptly clean up diseased plants, and do not casually disturb its roots, otherwise it will damage the root system and increase the incidence of disease.
