How to care for a snake plant? Master these care methods to grow it easily
I. Growing environment
1. Soil: Snake plants like loose, fertile soil with good drainage.
2. Watering: When new shoots are growing, they need a lot of water, so keep the soil moist; after the leaves grow out, soil that is moist but slightly dry is best, and watering once the soil surface dries is enough; when temperatures are relatively low in winter, keep the potting soil slightly dry and do not water too much, to avoid rot.
3. Fertilizing: Snake plants need a moderate amount of fertilizer during the growing season; apply a dilute cake fertilizer solution once every 10-15 days.
4. Light: Plenty of sunlight lets snake plants grow better. In hot seasons, move it to a spot with diffused light; at other times it should receive plenty of light. Be careful not to leave it in a place with strong sunlight for a long time, as it can easily scorch the leaves.
II. Propagation methods
1. Division propagation: Carry out division propagation when repotting in spring. Divide it into clumps of 3-5 leaves and plant them separately.
2. Cutting propagation: Remove fresh, healthy leaves and let them dry, then insert them into the growing medium and place them in a dark place. The light should not be too strong; make sure there is ventilation and enough water, and keep the potting soil slightly moist.
III. Common pests and diseases
1. Rot disease: When it occurs, spots appear, and in severe cases the leaves become dry and sunken. Once discovered, promptly clean away the diseased leaves, and it is best to replace the potting soil; or spray with a carbendazim preparation about once a week.
2. Scale insects: In the early stage they are not easy to spot; in severe cases there are white raised bumps on the leaves. You can spray with oxidized fruit extract, once every 7-10 days.
