How to Grow Lilies: Cultivation Methods and Precautions
I. Growing Environment
1. Soil: For growing lilies, a sandy soil with good drainage and rich in humus is suitable; acidic soil is best, as it helps them grow better.
2. Temperature: Keeping the temperature at 16-24°C is optimal; if it is below 5°C or above 30°C, they will stop growing.
3. Light: Lilies like ample sunlight. If the light duration is short, it will affect flower bud differentiation and also affect the normal growth of the flowers, so it is best to place them in a spot with plenty of sunlight.
4. Watering: Keep the flower soil moist. In summer and autumn, water once each in the morning and evening. In spring and winter, check the soil moisture before watering; if the soil is dry, water appropriately. When the temperature is high, spray water around appropriately to lower the temperature.
II. Propagation Methods
1. Seed propagation: Collect seeds and store them well, then sow them the following spring. After sowing, they will sprout in about 20-30 days. During the seedling stage, provide shade, and by early autumn they can be transplanted.
2. Cutting propagation: After digging out the bulb, break off the scales, let them dry, then insert them into prepared soil and water them a certain amount. They will take root in about 1.5 months.
III. Common Diseases
1. Leaf spot disease: Brown spots will appear on the leaves, and the entire leaf will turn black and die. Once discovered, immediately remove the diseased leaves and spray with mancozeb wettable powder.
2. Bulb rot: Brown lesions appear on the bulb, and in severe cases it will rot. After the disease occurs, spray with mancozeb.
