How do you grow jasmine so it blooms abundantly and smells fragrant?
I. Growing Environment
1. Soil: It is best to use loose, well-aerated soil for growing jasmine.
2. Watering: Water moderately in normal times; too much water turns the leaves yellow, and poor soil aeration leads to root rot. If you have watered too much, place the pot in a cool, shady spot and loosen the soil a little. In winter, control the amount of water; keep the potting soil slightly moist and water once every 5-7 days.
3. Fertilizing: The flowering period of jasmine is relatively long, so its fertilizer needs increase, especially during flower bud formation when it must not lack fertilizer; however, over-fertilizing will largely cause root rot, and do not fertilize when the soil is too dry or too wet.
4. Light: Only with sufficient sunlight can jasmine grow better. If it stays in a shady environment for a long time, it will fail to bloom because of insufficient light; at this point, place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight, apply a little more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and control watering, and it will bloom.
II. Propagation Methods
1. Cutting propagation: Choose a 2-4 year old mother plant, cut healthy branches from it into pieces about 10 cm long, remove the lower leaves, keep 2-4 pairs of buds on each cutting, insert them into the seedbed and water thoroughly, cover with plastic film to raise air humidity, and they can be transplanted after about 40 days.
2. Layering propagation: Make a cut wound on a healthy branch at 15 cm, press it into the soil, and cover with about 5 cm of soil. After layering, water it; roots will form in about one month, and it can be transplanted in about two months.
III. Common Pests and Diseases
1. Southern blight: Once found, remove the diseased plants completely, strengthen routine care to reduce the spread of the pathogen, and in severe cases spray with chlorothalonil powder.
2. Carmine spider mite: It causes leaves to turn yellow and even drop. When it appears, spray with trichlorfon-acaricide emulsifiable concentrate for control; spray once every 7 days, and about 2-3 times will have a clear effect.
