How to grow lotus? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions
I. Growing environment
1. Watering: Summer temperatures are relatively high, and it is also in its peak growing period, so its demand for water increases at this time. Therefore, do not let it dry out in summer. During the rainy season, note that standing water must not cover the standing leaves, and take reasonable drainage measures in time.
2. Fertilizing: Lotus likes fertilizer, but do not apply too much, because too much fertilizer will burn it. Lotus has relatively high fertilizer requirements in summer, so it is best to apply fertilizer once every 15-20 days. If the lotus becomes yellow and thin with no disease spots, that proves it is in a fertilizer-deficient state and should be fertilized in time.
3. Light: It needs sufficient light. For home cultivation, place it in a spot that receives sunlight. After it buds, give it at least 4 hours of light every day, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and the flower buds will wither.
II. Propagation methods
1. Sowing propagation: Soak seeds that have already opened in water. They will sprout in one week. Change the water frequently. After about half a month, they can be transplanted. When transplanting, note that the lotus leaves must be exposed outside, and the water layer should not be too deep. Just maintain them normally.
2. Rhizome division propagation: Take the prepared seed rhizomes out of the soil, wash off the mud cleanly, and when planting, do not let water enter the tail end. After planting, place them in the sun, and when the soil becomes dry, water appropriately. After they sprout, increase the water amount.
III. Common diseases
1. Rot disease: When leaves are soaked in water for a long time or the soil is poor, this disease occurs more severely. Fertilize appropriately, do not make the water layer too deep, and spray carbendazim for control.
2. Brown spot disease: Brown spots appear on lotus leaves, and the disease worsens during the rainy season. Remove diseased leaves promptly and clean them up. In severe cases, spray with carbendazim or zineb solution.
