How to Grow Agave? A Complete Guide to Care Methods
1. Growing Environment
(1) Soil: It is best to choose loam that is loose, nutrient-rich and well-draining. Specifically, leaf mold mixed with coarse sand can be used to make the potting soil.
(2) Watering: It has requirements for water, but waterlogging must not occur. During the growing season, sufficient water must be provided, and watering can be done more frequently. However, in winter it enters dormancy, and at this time water must be restricted, otherwise the roots rot easily.
(3) Light: The plant is relatively light-loving, and scattered light can be provided normally. However, in summer it must be shaded, otherwise its leaves will become dull in color. In winter, the light is best kept sufficient. However, if the placement location has poor light, then the temperature must not be too high, and watering should not continue. Resume light in spring.
(4) Temperature: The most suitable is 15 to 25 degrees. At night it can be appropriately lower, at 10 to 16 degrees. The wintering temperature in winter should not be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise it will suffer cold damage.
(5) Fertilizing: The plant has low requirements for fertilizer, and generally it only needs to be applied once a year, during the growing season. However, if the soil is relatively poor and the plant's growth is not very good, then fertilizer can also be used one or two more times.
2. Pest and Disease Control
For diseases such as "leaf spot" and "anthracnose", 50 percent Tuzet wettable powder can be used for control. For pests such as "scale insects", 80 percent concentration dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate can be used.
