The Japanese style pursues simplicity and naturalness, so when designing a living room, many open and minimalist decorative elements are used, such as wide, large windows that increase the natural light indoors; a minimalist home layout that makes the whole space feel more spacious and comfortable; and a delicate, compact tea table.

In Japanese-style interiors, the flooring (tatami mats, wood floors), wall coatings, wooden ceiling framework and white paper window panes all use natural materials. Door and window frames, ceilings and light fixtures are all divided with latticework, a technique with a strongly modern feel.

The Japanese style uses natural materials and colors throughout: wood, bamboo, rattan, hemp and other natural elements. It does not favor ornamentation, seeking instead a leisurely, casual mood for living. The spatial forms are extremely simple, with clear lines used in the design, and curves are abandoned in the division of space, giving it a strong sense of geometry.

In traditional Japanese-style renovation, modern materials such as glass, metal and leather are rarely seen; instead, natural materials such as raw wood, bamboo, stone and mats are used. Furniture in raw wood tones runs through the entire Japanese-style home space, celebrating an aesthetic of primal naturalness in the decor.
