Clivia has very high ornamental value and is a plant that many flower lovers grow. Its blooming period falls around the Spring Festival, which is very festive, and its thick leaves and neat, beautiful plant shape also make it an excellent foliage plant. However, once it develops a stuck flower stalk, it greatly detracts from its appearance.

So why does clivia develop a stuck flower stalk?

Temperature: The suitable temperature for clivia growth is around 20°C. If the temperature is too low, it easily leads to poor growth, making the flower scape difficult to push out, which makes a stuck flower stalk more likely.

Temperature difference: Clivia prefers an environment with a relatively large temperature difference. If the temperature difference is small, it can also easily make it difficult for the flower stalk to emerge, causing a stuck flower stalk.

Fertility: Clivia is a flower that greatly loves fertilizer and has relatively high fertilizer needs. If fertility is insufficient, it can also easily cause a stuck flower stalk. In autumn, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer needs to be applied, which helps the formation of flower buds.

Watering: When clivia is pushing out its stalk, the potting soil needs to be kept moist to ensure sufficient water.

How to deal with a stuck flower stalk:

1. Baijiu

Baijiu contains relatively many trace elements, and these trace elements can all be absorbed. If clivia does not bloom, we can water it with baijiu once a month, which can promote the clivia to push out its stalk. However, do not use too much; just a little is enough. This method can also ease a stalled seedling condition.

2. Beer

Beer contains relatively many nutrients such as carbon dioxide, sugar, protein, and amino acids, which is beneficial to clivia's metabolism and good for flower growth. Beer can also regulate the pH of the soil and can make clivia grow more vigorously. In addition, wiping clivia leaves with beer can also make the leaves thicker, more emerald green, and more glossy.

3. The forceful method

We can, as shown in the picture below, expose the flower stalk, and can even gently cut the base with a small knife, which can reduce the pressure. Be careful not to damage the flower stalk. In this way, the flower stalk will slowly be able to push out.

Also, if the clivia's potting soil becomes compacted, weakening the root system's ability to absorb nutrients, this will also affect the clivia pushing out its stalk. Therefore, it is recommended that you repot the clivia every year and loosen the soil frequently, which can also prevent the clivia from developing a stuck flower stalk.
