The symptoms of pneumoconiosis generally include difficulty breathing, sputum production, chronic cough, wheezing, chest tightness, etc. These symptoms are generally not severe and are easily overlooked by people; if delayed, they can easily lead to serious conditions such as pneumothorax, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, cor pulmonale, pleural mesothelioma, pulmonary tuberculosis, and lung cancer. Pneumoconiosis complications have historically ranked first among complications of lung diseases. At this point, the symptoms of pneumoconiosis and its complications become obvious, and the condition worsens.

Scarlet fever complicated by pneumonia

Spontaneous pneumothorax is one of the diseases that pneumoconiosis is prone to complicate. When it is only a localized pneumothorax, there may be a feeling of chest stuffiness and tightness; when the pneumothorax is extensive, chest pain and difficulty breathing occur together, and the chest pain is radiating, generally radiating to the shoulder, arm, and abdomen on the side where the pneumothorax occurs, and symptoms such as cyanosis, pale complexion, and sweating may also appear. During consultation, a weak pulse, decreased blood pressure, widened intercostal spaces, tympanic percussion note, displacement of the heart and trachea, and weakened or absent breath sounds may be observed.

Complicated by pneumonia: generally, patients who already have pneumoconiosis are mostly adults, and most do not have relatively strong fever, but on careful observation, alternating chills and fever can still be found. There may also be chest pain, but it feels like needle pricks, and the chest pain worsens with coughing and deep breathing; it may also radiate to the shoulder and abdomen. If the complication is lobar pneumonia, it may also cause severe abdominal pain and may even be misdiagnosed as an acute abdomen.

Bronchial asthma complicated by atelectasis

Pulmonary tuberculosis, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, etc. - about more than ten kinds of diseases can be complicated by pneumoconiosis. The symptoms of these complications increase. For example, when complicated by pulmonary tuberculosis, there will be afternoon tidal fever, severe cough, sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, cyanosis, and even hemoptysis, etc.; when pneumoconiosis is complicated by emphysema, difficulty breathing suddenly worsens, with prominent wheezing and chest tightness, etc., and because of severe hypoxia, shock and coma can occur at any time, so oxygen inhalation and other first aid measures should be kept ready at all times.
