This variety was selected and bred around the Mid-Autumn Festival in the autumn of 1999. Tiegusu Mei was discovered by orchid enthusiast Wu Haibao in Caitang Town, Chao'an County, under the historic and cultural city of Chaozhou. After it bloomed, Wu Haibao sent the flower to a photo studio in Caitang Town for pictures. Later, orchid enthusiast Lin Guobiao from Nanjing County, Fujian Province, who operated an orchid business in Shantou, discovered at Wu Haibao's home that this flower was unique. After repeated earnest discussions with Wu Haibao, Wu Haibao reluctantly parted with and sold a cluster with flowers. Lin Guobiao brought the flower back to Shantou, where it caused a sensation in Shantou's orchid circles, and everyone regarded it as a treasure.
The flower shape is a pure-color narcissus petal slightly tending toward the plum form. The flower appearance is well formed and its charm is excellent. The open form has five petals in separate segments. The three outer petals have tightly contracted bases and edges, with a slight pouch. The inner petals are soft-pouch Guanyin petals, tightly covering the column. Because the petal edges harden and form a pouch, they have a slight dark rim, making them appear even more distinctive. The lip is a ruyi lip, and sometimes it also opens as a small Liuhai lip. The whole flower has good form, does not deform after being open for a long time, and has uncommon charm. Tiegusu Mei is a pure-color type combined with a petal type. It is truly a rare treasure among Sijilan.
