Clivia has a very elegant and neat plant shape, with leaves arranged in a fan that gives it very high ornamental value, making people feel comfortable both physically and mentally just looking at it. Its flowers are also very beautiful, usually blooming during the Chinese New Year period, which is very fitting for the occasion. Even without blooming, it is still a foliage plant with very high ornamental value. However, if Clivia is not cared for properly, it is prone to developing crooked leaves, which affects its appearance.

So how should this problem be solved?

Plants all have phototropism - they grow toward the side with more light. This is especially true for Clivia kept on a balcony, where receiving light on only one side for a long time easily leads to crooked leaves. If you want Clivia leaves to grow neatly, you need to let the plant receive light evenly. Rotate the pot regularly so that both sides can receive light. This generally ensures a good plant shape and prevents leaves from growing crooked.

For cases where leaves have already become crooked, we need to take some measures.

1. Light blocking

If it is a relatively large Clivia, we can wrap the protruding side with opaque aluminum foil. Whichever side grows out, cover that side. Combined with regular pot rotation, it will recover quickly. If the condition is not serious, it can be alleviated in about two weeks.

2. Cardboard fixation

We can also cut several wide holes in a piece of cardboard and insert the Clivia leaves through them, so the cardboard holds the leaves in place. External force helps them recover. This generally also needs to be combined with pot rotation and appropriate indirect light, and it can help Clivia restore its plant shape relatively quickly.

3. Small clip recovery

We can use small clothespins, padding the jaws with a little soft cloth or paper towel, and clip adjacent symmetrical leaves together. After a period of time, they can be corrected.

We can also make our own corrective devices. You can grow the Clivia within a frame, letting the leaves grow inside the frame. Once the Clivia leaves have been corrected, the frame can be removed. This method is also very effective. Generally, doing this during the spring and autumn growing seasons is best, as it can effectively prevent Clivia leaves from growing crooked.
