The hydrangea has another name, and that is "Eight Immortals flower" (bāxiānhuā). From the name we can guess that its flowers come in eight colors, and they carry an air of fairy elegance~ So this time Huahua will teach everyone how to grow a potted "big-flower" plant like this.

Hydrangeas come in a very rich range of colors - red, blue, purple... all of them are very appealing. And they produce so many flowers, just like a big ball of blooms. The leaves are green too, and although they are not as glossy as those of other plants, paired with the flowers they look really pleasing.

We can generally buy hydrangeas at flower markets. When buying, we can decide based on our own situation. If we want to enjoy the flowers right away because of a holiday, we can directly buy a potted plant that has already bloomed. We can also buy one that has not bloomed, but try to choose one with flower buds, so there is no need to worry that it will not bloom after we bring it home!

For a hydrangea that has already bloomed, what we need to do is extend its blooming time and keep its flowers and leaves from wilting. After bringing it home, we should first water it thoroughly once, because hydrangeas really love water. If the leaves droop, it is mostly caused by a lack of water. So we should keep the soil moist without letting water accumulate.

Then we should avoid light as much as possible, because it cannot stand long periods of sunlight, otherwise the leaf tips will dry out and the flowers will fade faster. Also, any flowers that have finished blooming should be cut off in time, otherwise they will consume too many nutrients and affect the growth of the whole plant.

If we bought one that has not bloomed, we need to take even better care of it, and try to place it in a cool, ventilated spot. Then we can apply a little fertilizer, which can encourage flower buds to emerge, but once the weather gets hot, stop fertilizing! Normally we can also mist water around it, and while we are at it check for any branches that have already grown bad, then cut them off with scissors to prevent the spread of disease.

Overall, hydrangeas are still very easy to care for. As long as you do well on the two main points of watering and light, they will bloom very quickly!
