What are the cultivation methods and precautions for wintersweet?

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Growing wintersweet requires loose, sandy soil rich in humus. It is quite afraid of waterlogging, so do not water until the soil is dry, and when you do water, water it thoroughly. The temperature should be kept at 16-23°C, and be sure to promptly prune diseased branches, dead branches and overly dense branches. Propagation can be done by sowing and division. After pests appear, they can be killed by spraying chemicals, and diseased leaves should be removed promptly.

I. Growing environment

1. Soil: To grow wintersweet, choose sandy soil that is rich in humus and relatively soft.

2. Watering: Wintersweet is very afraid of waterlogging. If there is too much water, it will grow poorly and flower bud differentiation will also be affected. The soil for wintersweet is best kept dry. Generally, do not water until the soil is dry, and when you do water, water it thoroughly. However, in summer it needs more water; only with enough moisture can it grow normally.

3. Temperature: Wintersweet is relatively cold-hardy. As long as the temperature does not drop below 15°C, it can overwinter normally. Keeping the temperature at 16-23°C is best.

4. Pruning: Properly prune diseased branches, dead branches and overly dense branches. Timely pruning can help it grow better.

II. Propagation methods

1. Sowing method: When the outer shell of the wintersweet turns yellow and the seeds turn black-brown, take out the seeds and store them. Sow them in March of the following year. Before sowing, soak the seeds in water for about 24 hours. New seeds sprout very quickly, so frost protection measures should be taken in winter.

2. Division method: Use a knife to divide it into several small plants. Each small plant should have 1-2 main branches, and cut them back to 10 cm before planting.

III. Common pests and diseases

Wintersweet generally has relatively few diseases. Common ones include aphids, scale insects, stinging moths, etc. After pests appear, they can be killed by spraying chemicals. If there are few pests, they can be caught by hand, and then the diseased leaves should be removed.
