How can you extend the blooming period of canna lilies? Learn these care methods

To extend the blooming period of canna lilies, first move them indoors promptly and give them a suitable temperature: 15-18°C. Second, supplement light when sunshine is scarce, and add fertilizer and water as well. In addition, you can dig up the underground roots, dry them in the sun, and replant them the following year.

1. Move indoors promptly

It has its own preferred environment. In the north, if you want its flowers to last longer, you need to move it into a room before October 15.

2. Keep warm indoors

When we keep its temperature between 15 and 18, it can keep blooming until the New Year.

3. Sufficient light

If it has already been placed in the house, we need to give it more than four hours of light every day. If that cannot be maintained, artificial light can be used to extend its blooming time.

4. Suitable fertilizer and water

Apply liquid fertilizer once every half month or so, but it must not be too concentrated, so the flowers will grow relatively quickly.

5. Replant the ground roots

It originally blooms at the end of October. After frost, we can cut off the withered stems and leaves, then dig out the roots underground, dry them in the sun for two or three days, and then place them in semi-dry soil to let them overwinter. Around March of the following year, they can be placed in soil and replanted. For the soil, sandy loam is still the best choice, and the base fertilizer should be sufficient.

In this way, it will bloom for a very long time from May to October, but it needs phosphorus fertilizer applied once every ten days or so, and no more fertilizer or water should be given before the flower buds show color.
