Recently, some gardening friends have reported that as the weather gets hotter, the few plants they painstakingly cultivated have all been invaded by fungus gnats. Today, Huahua will teach everyone how to wipe out fungus gnats!

Lure method

Gardening Encyclopedia

As the name suggests, it means placing some special things around the flower pot to attract and trap the fungus gnats.

1. Yellow sticky insect traps with a special scent

Use a thin stick to secure the sticky trap and hang it at a position slightly higher than the plant; too high or too low will affect the trapping effect;

Note that the sticky board should be replaced when the sticky area reaches 60%.

2. A small pot of soapy water or sugar water

Sugar water will stick to the fungus gnats, while soap contains fatty acids, which after decomposition become a natural waxy coating; once the fungus gnats get stuck, they will dehydrate and die.

Dissolve soap in water until the pH reaches 1~2 (can be tested with pH paper); note to use soft water such as rainwater or cooled boiled water for dissolving, and you can also add a small amount of sugar water to the soapy water.

Isolation method

Gardening Encyclopedia

The humidity and temperature of the soil are conducive to the reproduction and growth of black insect eggs, so covering the surface of the potting soil with a layer of dry sand and gravel soil also helps to wipe out fungus gnats.

Of course, isolation is not just about using soil; remember to also give them sunlight at the right time and keep them ventilated~

Spraying method

Gardening Encyclopedia

Use acetamiprid diluted 3000 times or potassium permanganate diluted 1000 times for spray irrigation, spraying about once every five days; after three or four times it can effectively kill adults and larvae.

Spraying insecticide kills pests more thoroughly, but it carries risks, so gardening friends should be careful when using it~

Many things in daily life have sterilizing effects; they are not only eco-friendly but also have a certain effect when used to wipe out fungus gnats.

1. Soaking tobacco shreds in water for spray irrigation

The nicotine in tobacco can effectively kill insects. Take a few cigarettes, pull out about 20g of tobacco shreds, add 500ml of clean water and soak for 24 hours, then spray the filtered liquid on the leaf surfaces, soil and around the bottom of the pot.

2. Mosquito coil to kill insects

Mosquito coils contain transfluthrin, which can effectively kill insects.

Cover the plant with plastic film, place it in a small room, light a mosquito coil, and fumigate for a few minutes to effectively clear out fungus gnats; soaking a mosquito coil directly in water and pouring it into the potting soil can also kill larvae and eggs.

3. Soaking garlic in water for spray irrigation

Garlic has a very strong sterilizing effect. Crush one garlic bulb, pour in half a liter of clean water, soak for one hour, then spray it on the leaves to effectively kill insects.

Have you all learned these pest-killing methods?

For fungus gnats, do you have any better methods?

Be sure to leave a comment and share them with everyone~
