[Global Times Comprehensive Report] According to the UK's Daily Mail on May 16, recently, at a small cottage in the countryside of Kent, England, local TV reporter Cameron Tucker was reporting by the roadside on a couple who were caught by police in 2017 for growing cannabis, when unexpectedly a young man suddenly walked out of the cannabis-growing cottage carrying a potted plant and wandered into the shot, then quickly ran off, leaving netizens highly amused.

It is reported that the small cottage where cannabis was grown, which reporter Tucker was reporting on, was discovered by police in August 2017, and the couple who grew the cannabis, Yvette and Neil Hartley, have now been sentenced. While Tucker was reporting the specific details, a man happened to dash past the camera carrying a potted plant. Some speculated that he might be an accomplice of the arrested couple, but Tucker believed the man was simply at a loss when he saw the camera and hurriedly ran away, and should have no connection to the matter. Police also said they had obtained no suspicious information related to the man, and the incident was purely a coincidence.

Charity worker Yvette and claims adjuster Hartley grew nearly 90 cannabis plants in this small house, worth as much as 500,000 pounds (about 4.31 million yuan). Even their neighbors did not know that such a small house was growing so much cannabis. The couple argued that they grew cannabis only to produce some cannabis oil to treat cancer, and that what they grew was Class B cannabis.

In response, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced the couple on May 14, and the sympathetic judge assigned them a double prison cell. The court recorder also expressed sympathy for the couple, but at the same time said: "They should be responsible for their actions, and we are also not sure whether growing cannabis for personal use was a smokescreen for other purposes." The couple was ultimately sentenced to 2 years in prison and 120 hours of unpaid work. (Intern translator: Xu Xinyu, Reviewer: Zhu Yingku)
