Snake plant can absorb carbon dioxide and radioactive substances, and eliminate formaldehyde, benzene, hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen fluoride, trichloroethylene and heavy metal particles.
At night it can also absorb a large amount of carbon dioxide and release a large amount of oxygen, increasing the negative ion concentration in the room; it can also absorb radioactive substances such as uranium, and eliminate phenol, hydrogen fluoride, coix seed and heavy metal particles, etc.
Snake plant, also known as tiger tail sansevieria, is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant. Tiger tail sansevieria is relatively cold-tolerant; in winter, as long as the room temperature is not lower than 8°C, it can still grow slowly. When the room temperature drops to around 3°C, the leaves freeze and shrivel. The optimum growth temperature is 20-28°C, and it fears summer heat.
Watering
When watering the snake plant, it is better to keep it dry than wet. When new plants sprout in spring and when temperatures are higher, maintain a moist state and mist the plant leaves daily. After late autumn, control the amount of watering and keep the potting soil in a relatively dry state to improve cold resistance.
Sunlight
Snake plant likes plenty of sunlight and can withstand direct sunlight, but the leaf color will become dull and pale, so shade treatment is needed.
Temperature
Snake plant likes warmth; the suitable growth temperature is 18-27°C. Growth stops below 13°C, and it can overwinter smoothly at a temperature of 5°C.
Fertilizing
Snake plant has a high fertilizer demand; apply light fertilizer frequently. During the growing season, fertilize 1-2 times a month to ensure the leaves are tender green and plump and thick. A compound fertilizer is usually used; long-term use of nitrogen fertilizer will cause the leaves to lose their luster. Do not fertilize in winter.
Pests and diseases
Snake plant is prone to leaf spot disease. Spray with a 1000-fold dilution of carbendazim, once every 7-10 days is sufficient; adjust the concentration appropriately according to the severity of the pests and diseases.
