Whether you're a master gardener or a beginner, it shows in the plants you keep at home

Home gardening has become a way to enjoy life. In your spare time after work, growing some plants and flowers at home not only decorates your living space but also cultivates your character. New plant lovers usually start with easy-to-grow varieties like pothos, spider plants, and peace lilies. Those who have advanced to master level love to grow the following flowers in summer to accent their living rooms:
1. Camellia: the guardian flower of Aquarius. In China, the lush camellia is a symbol of beauty. In the West, the red camellia also signifies "natural beauty," but never give camellias when visiting a sick person.
When buying a camellia, it is best to choose a plant with a short, sturdy canopy, dense branches and leaves, large flowers, vivid colors, and a half-and-half mix of open flowers and buds. If the potting soil is too loose, it means it was recently planted, so buying is not recommended; if there are scale insect wax shells on the branches or the undersides of the leaves, do not buy it either. A newly purchased potted plant is best placed on a south-facing balcony or windowsill with plenty of sunlight.
2. Peony: the guardian flower of Taurus. Red peonies signify "I cherish your love," while white peonies mean "take care." Never give away peony branches with fallen petals or potted peonies.
The peony has a dignified plant form, elegant branches and leaves, and graceful blooms. As early as the Tang Dynasty, it had earned the reputation of "national beauty and heavenly fragrance," making it especially suitable for garden planting and for potted display on balconies and in halls. The peony blooms from late spring to early summer, and now is the perfect season. When in bloom, it is gorgeously striking and enchantingly charming.
3. Lily: the guardian flower of Cancer. In the West, the lily is regarded as a symbol of holiness, while in China, the lily, with its meaning of unity and friendship, is seen as an auspicious thing.
The lily blooms in summer, and when in flower it gives off waves of fresh fragrance that gladden the heart. When using potted lilies or cut lilies to decorate a room, they should be placed in a well-ventilated entrance hall, living room, balcony, or windowsill. Use them in moderation, and it is best to choose flowers with the stamens removed.
4. Gerbera: the guardian flower of Libra and Sagittarius, and the lucky flower of Leo. Single-layered flowers represent "warmth," while double-layered flowers represent "praiseworthy passion." When giving them as a gift, do not give just one stem, because it implies "putting on a brave face while struggling."
The gerbera blooms from spring to autumn. A potted plant placed on a windowsill, balcony, or in a study looks vibrant, serene, and elegant. Arranging gerberas with lavender and wheat ears and placing the arrangement on the coffee table in the center of the living room expresses passion and strong vitality, with a uniquely fresh touch.
