We all know that the hot summer makes many flowers hard to grow. Many flowers that grew perfectly well in spring become listless in summer, and many even die outright. People fear the heat, and plants are the same, but one kind of flower is an exception. It seems that the fiercer the sun shines, the more flowers it produces, and it is also a flower that many people have grown at their front doors. Let's take a look together.
Does the picture above look like a familiar flower? It is the Madagascar periwinkle, also known as the rose periwinkle, and it can bloom all year round. In the south, people love to grow this flower as a household potted plant; they are not only easy to grow, but also produce a huge number of flowers. In the north, apart from having to move it indoors to overwinter in winter, it can be grown casually in other seasons and will still bloom.
The Madagascar periwinkle is well known for growing quickly. A small seedling at the start of the year can, after a few months, grow into a plant that blooms nonstop. The Madagascar periwinkle is a perennial herbaceous plant and also produces a lot of seeds. If planted in a courtyard, a gust of wind will soon spread it into a large patch of flowers.
For propagating the Madagascar periwinkle, we generally use sowing, though cuttings can also be used for raising seedlings, but the growth vigor of plants propagated from cuttings is not as robust as that of seed-grown seedlings. After sowing, the radicle emerges in 4-6 days. Keep the seedling medium moist at the initial stage, no fertilization is needed, and maintain the temperature at 25-26°C. Potted Madagascar periwinkle is different from other flowers: it needs sunlight, and the more ample the light, the more flowers it will produce. You do not need to worry at all about not being able to grow it well in summer.
