How do you grow cacti? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions
1. Cultivation environment
(1) Soil: The most important requirement is drainage and aeration. You can choose sandy loam soil, or calcareous sandy soil. Do not choose soil that is too fertile, as it easily damages the roots.
(2) Watering: The water requirement is greatest in summer, and it is best to water in the morning and evening. Never water at noon, as it easily scorches the leaves. If it is a rainy day, the amount of water must not be too large. As the temperature drops, the demand for water will also gradually decrease. The general principle is to water thoroughly once the soil has dried out.
(3) Fertilizing: You can use decomposed bean cake water, egg water, etc., which you can prepare yourself. However, note that you must add enough water, and the concentration must not be too high. Mainly use it in spring and autumn, once every twenty days, or once every half month if growth is fast. Timing also matters, and it is best in the early morning or evening.
(4) Temperature: They like warmth, preferably 20 to 30 degrees. They are not cold-tolerant, and the wintering temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees. In addition, the temperature difference between day and night should not be too large.
(5) Light: Cacti are strongly sun-loving plants, and all of them need very strong light to grow well and bloom well. However, some small spherical varieties can be placed in semi-shaded places, as their characteristics differ somewhat.
2. Disease prevention and control
They are most easily affected by rot disease. First cut off the infected parts, and in severe cases, change the pot. Next, strictly control water and improve ventilation.
